Re: Advice on a route to Southampton

Shame I hadn't seen this thread earlier in the summer, could have offered some advice with the benefit of local knowledge. Ideally a mixture of those suggested - with the exception of the A31, a truly horrible road full of traffic. If doing it for fun, take Si's suggestion up as far as Sherbourne, t...

Re: Your best bike........,

Is your best every bike, always your current bike? Otherwise, why would you have it? 😂 As a matter of fact it is the current one (1290 SDR, bought as a keeper, done a few tasteful upgrades). I was a fully paid-up member of the UK's sports bike scene from its inception in the mid-80s. I didn't get a...

Re: Be warned if your, ahem, Speedo is inaccurate

Let's not kid ourselves. When an accident happens, regardless of why and how it happened, You are at greater risk of severe injury or fatality the faster you have been travelling. The big issue is found within the equation for Kinetic energy: KE=½ M.V 2 In longhand, Kinetic Energy = half the produc...

Down here in the New Forest there's a widespread 40 mph limit which I'd largely considered to be advisory - The roads are truly abysmally surfaced and in the Forest proper there are ponies & cattle wandering, plus pigs in places too. The livestock aren't bad, they're pretty steady, but deer can ...

Re: Aussie biker awareness video.

I did a couple of hundred miles on the road bike today, and after lunchtime it was nice to actually feel warm on the bike for the first time this year. Needless to say I saw a number of skin crayons while I was out - they always seem to be on sports bikes for some reason, perhaps the guy on the Blad...

Orwell was right, got his dates out a bit but he saw what was coming. Hypocrites in government claiming that they're "defending freedom of speech in the face of the woke agenda", while passing a bill to severely restrict the right to protest if it annoys them... Chicky and I rode to Loomie...

Re: Marquez to Aprilia!

The incident was due to MM93 locking his front wheel and having to release the brake, which obviously then made him run into JM89 and MO88. As a result of the Honda being rubbish again (certainly in comparison with the Ducati and Aprilia), MM93 is having to over-ride it and make time up on the brake...

Re: Are we becoming a bunch of old gits???!

It's a combination of negative factors I reckon - when I was 16 (in 1978!) virtually every lad I knew at school got a 'ped... in those days there were heaps of Fizzies (purple ones were best of course), AP50s, SS50s, plus the odd more exotic models like Garellis, Puchs and so on. For those of us who...

Is your Beemer on PCP, are you handing it back when the contract finishes? If you want a powerful twin, get a 1290 SDR... you know it makes sense :))

Re: new to enduro

Are you thinking “New to Enduro” as in racing, or green-laning? For laning, a CRF250/300L would be fine for a newbie - sure, heavier than a pukka enduro bike, but it will be comfortable (a definite consideration for the between-lanes road work), will have all the road kit (proper lights, indicators,...

Re: BBC [Censored]

it's sadly predictable that the Mainstream Media outlets never bother writing a word (maybe BBC NI are an exception as road racing is big news there, plus they actually celebrate having a local world champ in Jonny Rea) about racing returning to the Island after a three year absence, or Hicky joinin...

Re: Suzuki exit GP at the end of the season!

Compared with the other manufacturers in MotoGP, Suzuki are pretty small: Honda are massive and diverse, Yamaha similar, and both have much bigger shares of the bike market. Ducati are owned by VAG, Aprilia by Piaggio, and KTM are big in their own right and heavily backed by Red Bull. The old adage ...

Re: BBC show - speedshop

Interesting programme, and it must be said that Titch is more comprehensible than Guy. In the episode about the Weston Beach Race the reclamation of the knackered head on his XL350 was interesting, though the edit missed out the fact that not only the head, but the camshaft and rocker gear was all D...
