Re: COBWEB RIDE - Sunday March 24th

It's a horrible ford. Trust me, unless it's bone dry, it's a Youtube hit waiting to happen. Re: COBWEB RIDE - Sunday March 24th

You guys do know this route takes you through a ford at Sydling St Nicolas? (Between Cerne Abbas and Maiden Newton) It could be a foot deep after the rain we've had and the bottom is green and slimy flagstone. There is a foot bridge but its narrow and a bit dicey on a bike. To bypass it, when you re...

Re: North Coast 500 trip

Plenty on the Applecross pass. It's like Zigzag Hill but over several miles and at about 40 degrees. Much better to go up it than down which means heading up from the south and going round the Applecross peninsular clockwise. Ideally get there early in the morning before the camper vans stir. If you...

Re: North Coast 500 trip

The real scourge are caravans and camper vans. The Highlands are a no-go zone in August. Hopefully it shouldn't be too bad in May.
Avoid doing the NC500 curcuit at the weekend if possible.
Shouldn't be many midges at that time of year anyway and being near the coast keeps them off.

Re: North Coast 500 trip

I did it back in June. I was up there anyway in a holiday cottage in Glemoriston and from there I did the NC500 in two parts over two separate days. Once on the circuit you can do it easily in two days unless you plan to ride slowly and stop frequently or have long lunch breaks. If you wanted a sing...

Re: S.W.B rideout to The Skylark

If anyone wants to join me for the run up to meet R1 Raven and his mob at 'Tivvy services' on Friday, I'll be leaving Sainsburys car park in Hind Street, Ottery St May (EX11 1BW) at 1715 hrs. I'll then be taking a bimble through the Blackdowns - no farm tracks this time I promise - and am aiming to...

You can tall that Jim's yet another "curmudgeonly old fart" Watch out Brian, it seems there's plenty of us here, and we're gaining in numbers all the time. I can feel a COF ride out coming on soon. . . . . . .. Oh sorry, I forgot; we've got one on the 23rd September! The youngsters...

Re: To sat nav or not to sat nav....that is the question..poll

I use a fourth option: a car sat-nav bought for a quarter the price in a waterproof case and detailed large-scale OS touring maps for off-bike route planning and hand written reprogramming notes in the map window of the tank bag for use when required. The sat-nav is a quarter the price of a dedicate...

Re: Langport bike night.

Hooray, tinternet is working again. Good night last night. Thanks for the company Smiler and Moose, nice to see you again. That's an enjoyable meet out there. Quirky pub and a properly interesting selection of bikes. I'll go again for sure. Hope you got home in the dry. I did but only just. Don't th...
