LLANDOW 2020 - latest information UPDATED 12/5/20

Post by billinom8s »

Ok, i've had a few people contact me over the last couple of days about this event.

As of today Llandow have not cancelled the day.

So it's still on.

If they contact me to cancel or try to postpone the day then I will post up on here the details.

If you managed to rope in other riders for this event that are not on the forum can you please pass this along to them? Or get them on the form!

Cheers.

Whilst I can fully understand everyone champing at the bit to get back out on track, have a think about the reality of things at the moment... Even if restrictions are eased a little in the next month or so the hospitals will still be rammed full of COVID-19 cases by the time the Llandow date comes around, and trips to the local A&E, although not commonplace from the SWB annual do, have happened in the past. The NHS staff have their hands more than full at the moment (news reports of the new facility at the Excel centre in London turning patients away as they don't have enough ICU nurses to look after the number of patients it could, in theory, accommodate) - would you really want to be the person wheeled in with a self-inflicted broken collarbone when they have more important things to do?
While nobody would arrive at Llandow intent on lobbing their bike into the scenery, it happens and bear in mind that everyone will be properly ring-rusty after an extended lay-off period. The odd lucky person might get onto a slightly earlier date and be back up to speed by then, but that will just increase the speed differential to those who haven't, and increased disparities in rider speeds aren't a good thing.
Even if things are green-lighted before the due date it might be worth considering a postponement if possible.

Scotty I have to say i am with you.
I did a track day in March which looking back i was taking a real risk. At the time i viewed this as a bad flue but now that I am better educated I want to avoid getting this thing. I am very concerned about how we are released back out of our homes as think it will then spread just as quickly as we have already seen it do and don't want to be part of the 2nd peak gang.

I love bikes and I love track days.... at the same time I have also written off 2020 as a bad idea, save the money and make 2021 the best ever

those that aren't planning on going on this trip shouldn't be putting a downer on it for those that are.

I bet you still went hooning around the roads and tracks when SAARS, MRSA and the NOROVIRUS were doing the rounds. This is a positive thread for positive people during a negative time.

It's weeks away from happening, can we please look on the bright side and for a bright and hopeful future?

Also, i'd question the "hospitals rammed full" issue ..... Just how busy do you think the hospital's are? London, I can imagine, they're rammed .... I can't say for Wales, but according to government figures there are currently circa 8 - 900 patients in hospital in the westcountry, that includes an area from Bristol down through Bath, onto Yeovil, Dorchester, and down to Weymouth. The RD&E in Exeter alone has almost 900 patient capacity. Derriford in Plymouth more. Add in Taunton, Yeovil, Dorchester, the Bristol Hospitals, and there can't be more than a ward or two of Covid patients per hospital on average.
As I said, I can't speak for Wales, but if their level of infection is similar to ours, then one or two winged bikers aren't going to be the end of the world, as long as restrictions are lifted to allow such events to happen?
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

What about the poor circuit owners.

If they don’t have customers, they may not be there for you next year.

If it's on, i will be going (as per my comment above). Obviously social distancing will still apply regardless, but given the choice i will be there.

If we're all positive then natural social distancing will occur, it's only a mix of pisitive and negative that will cause distancing to break down and attract close crowding with associated transfer. Lol
