Track Day Insurance Whilst At Llandow

Post by menzies3032 »

Hi All

Lets start this thread with a few statements
1) You are safer on track then you are on the road (road surface is better ,nothing coming the other way, nothing parked round the corner)
2) If you ride on track the way you ride on the road you will get the same result (i.e. no reason why you will fall off)
3) You only ever ride on track at a speed you feel happy with (i.e. just because others are quicker then you this does not matter)

This said my situation has recently changed and I am now looking to take my one and only road bike on track at Llandow. Having ridden the track for the last 7 years and never had any issues I know that I can go there and come home with a smile.

However like many of you that perhaps have not been on track before or (like myself) do get enthusiastic with the right wrist when on track you may be concerned about what happens if the worst happens and you fall off and damage your bike. Lets be honest your bike is a big investment and you might want to safeguard that investment becuase as we all know road insurance will not cover you whilst on track.

Hence what you need is Track Day Insurance......

So I am happy to advise that I have been in touch with "BeMoto" insurance and they have supplied me a quote and have advised that they are prepared to offer a 10% discount to our SWB Llandow day.

If you want a quote leave your full name and contact number below and when we have a list i have agreed with them that i will get them to call you and talk you through a quote.

Just to give you an idea and feel of what you get and how much it costs
My bike is a GSXR1000 2007 with a value of £6k I have then advised £2k of extras on the bike (so yes £8k total value)
There is a £750 excess on a claim
The cost quoted before any further discount was ish £135 for the day

Thanks for that Rob.

However, for people's data protection etc I have to advise that if you are interested in a quote.

This is something separate from swb so swb are not liable for anything to do with it.

Plus

You may be more comfortable with just sticking your username up and then sending a PM to Menzies with your name and contact number.

Cheers.

My bike is worth 5-6k i suspect with possibly 8-10k of extras

The extras make the bike its value
How Can the extras be included in the insurance?

Well when talking to them they advised that they will not only insure the Bike but also the extras. So you just have to declare them as part of the policy. But no doubt if your asking for insurance for a £16k Bike the cost will be a little more however if the worst was to happen then least you know your covered. If you want them to give you a quote then PM me you full name and phone number and I will pass it on.

Yep it's a worry but that insurance for a day at the track is nearly what I pay for insurance for a year on the road
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

I'm somewhat confused here :?

I've never done a track day and have little intention of so doing, but things don't seem to add up. A bit of a dichotomy (as we Bristolians would say).

Insurance companies aint stoopid. Their sole raison d'etre is to make money.

So we have this better surface, nowt coming tother way, no lamp posts, manhole covers or pedestrians etc. and yet they want to charge 300 times more for a track policy than for a road one. Further, they impose a HUGE excess.

Method in their madness ???
Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?

It's called praying on paranoia Larry.
More people ride on track and go home in one piece than don't. You may get one person out of 150 on a normal day that goes tracking.
Like Mark says, take it easy and enjoy the day. Llandow is a fun day. It only becomes dodgy when the ego or red mist appears.

It is safer than the road but only becomes not so if you lack self control or haven't poor luck - same as on the road really .

Hi All

I think everybody who has posted on this link I have been on track with at one time or the other. And in the last 7 years you have never seen me sliding down the road or the Bike doing cart wheels down the track.

This is all about “what happen if”

My situation has changed and what I used to ride £2k Bike has now gone and I am now going to be riding (with spares) an £8k Bike on track. So for me if the worst happens then the exposure financial now justifies the £135 to insure myself against that risk.

For anybody new to the forum or considering Llandow but worried about riding your pride and joy on track for the first time then like me you may consider the £135 cost worth it to allow you to enjoy the day in peace of mind. If so please put your name below and drop me a PM with your details and “I will help you”

If you don’t want to pay £135 or you have been on track loads and know what your doing and don’t want insurance then of course this is your choice and ....... see you at Llandow

Just because I had a little Detour does not mean I fell off. Seem to remember a little detour at Bedford as well as Parcmotor
