Hello and welcome to SWB :D

It's generally considered polite to go to the "introduce yourself" section first

I would guess the gearbox has not been installed correctly - selector drum/forks perhaps :? but there are a myriad of other things ..... clutch locked up, gears not assembled on shafts correctly, e5tc., etc., ... you need to give some more details of what it's doing (or not) really
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Are you moving when you try and select 2nd? I know on some kawasakis the have a neutral only function at standstill and wont select 2nd.

Kawasaki gearboxes have a system installed so that 2nd gear can not be selected from neutral and can only be selected once the bike is moving. it is 3 small ball bearings in the output shaft that stop 2nd being engaged until the shaft is spinning fast enough to throw the balls out into the gear pinion which then allows it to slide across when selected. It is a common problem that when the bike has been stood for some time the oil tends to gum up a bit and the balls tend to stick, the only solution is to either run some flushing oil through it to see if that clears it, failing that strip the box out again and then remove the 3 ball bearings. Whenever I build a Kawasaki gearbox I remove the 3 ball bearings, as you cannot check the gearbox operation before refitting the motor with them still fitted.

If you can bring me the motor I'll sort it out for you. My workshop is based in Williton near Minehead. You'll need a set of gaskets, for clutchside and sump and ignition pickups cover, but it's a straightforward enough motor to do. I'm busy at Paignton over the bank holiday weekend with my dyno truck, so you could always drop the motor off to me there, to save you one trip to Williton.

Get the bike really hot and throw a can of engine flush in and let it run as per suggestions. Drop out engine flush while engine is still hot fill with new. Probably the cheapest start.
