Hi all
Having a few problems with my F1 ZX6R.
The biggest is an uneven idle, hot or cold it struggles to find a steady idle.
The bike struggles between 3-3.5k, it bogs down and refuses to accelerate.
The exhaust leaks at the 4-1 collector (is it connected at this point or should it be welded together(its wrapped in zorst tap that i dont want to remove just yet)?)
The coolant seems to be going down, no visable leaks, no oil in the water or white foam in the oil, what other place would it go?
How easy is it change the plugs?
Ive just done a oil and filter change, this weekend i will change the plugs, air filter and fuel filter. It has Dynojet stickers over it, would this cause the problems listed if not setup? The bike has been standing for 18mnths FYI, is there anything i should be looking at checking.
Any ideas welcome.
Ta Pete

Re: ZX6R Problems
wow what a list !
Firstly drain carbs and clean out, probs got alot of crap in there if stood around.
Balance carbs.
Plugs shouldn't be too hard.
Coolant - someone will be along to answer that one in a mo

Remove the carbs and remove all the jets and then clean them through before reassembling them and re setting the float heights. The likelyhood is that the jets and passageways inside the carbs will be gummed up with stale fuel from where it has been stood. If you still have problems bring it up to me, and I'll get it on the dyno to see what is going on.

Re: ZX6R Problems
I had the same issue with the coolant level on my zx9r, turns out it wasnt a leak it was just the last bubbles of air slowly dispersing over about a week after id flushed and refilled the system.
blowing exhaust can mess up fuelling a bit, i have a spare set of downpipes for a zx9r that i had rewelded ages ago, yours for free if you want them and they fit your bike that is!

Re: ZX6R Problems
Thanks for the responses and ideas, I will have a look this weekend and see how easy it is to take the carbs off, last carb i took off was my AR50 and that was pish easy, something tells me these wont be! I got a haynes manual so how hard can it be?
As for balancing the carbs, never done it so if someone has the kit, know how and some time to show/do it for me i will be most grateful, some gold may even grace your palms(or scrumpy).
I would like to see it on a dyno anyway Jam so i will be in touch either way, thanks. Where are you located?
Don't know if the ZX9R down pipe would fit the 6 but certainly worth a try, bit of a wounder if its cracked a weld or something. Wonder if my welding skills are much these days....

if you can get to camelford i can balance the carbs for ya m8
Re: ZX6R Problems
I'm located in Williton near minehead, the ZX9R pipes won't fit the ZX6, the 9 pipes have a different length to the 6 pipes as the 9 motor is taller, and the oil filter is located differently which requires the 9 pipes to splay number one cylinder around it, same as Z750/1000 bottom end. ZX6R F or G and probably J model pipes should all fit and be the correct diameter and length, the early 636 pipes should also fit with a little fiddling.

Re: ZX6R Problems
Sweet, still yet to try taking the carbs off for a clean up so will drop you a line as soon as done or planning to get em done, problem is the weathers so nice i just wanna ride at the mo. Catch 22, do i put up with it and just rev above 4k or have a crack and miss a bank holiday weekends and maybe more riding time. Power does seem a bit flat though and would be nice to see it on the dyno with JAM, see how many of the 98 horses are left. Also bet thats a friggin excellent testing ground over your way Meganall. Is that airfield used for much these days?meganall wrote:if you can get to camelford i can balance the carbs for ya m8
