2 Stroke crank case sealant?

Postby Milky on Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:08 pm

I need sealant for the two halfs of a crank case. I've got some 'instant gasket' cr@p from halfords that i've used on a sumps before an other low pressure/temperature areas don't wanna use that. I've read a bit about 'yamabond #4' and silicon type RTV sealant?, need something that will hold good pressure and won't leave me with oil p!ssing out everywhere and a 2 stroke that wont run properly! What are people's sudggestions and what have people used before? Ideally I need to pick some up at the weekend dont wanna be waiting weeks for some to turn up through ebay or whatever

cheers, tom. :)

This is the one I use - Blue Hylomar applied to both sides of gasket.

As stated in my pm, use either Wellseal or Threebond from Yamaha, both are designed exclusively for sealing flanges where there are no gaskets used, I use them to seal crankcase halves, the Wellseal seems to be better but Threebond may be easier to get hold of.
