This little piece is based on my experience on the Busa and B-King, both of which have been problem free since going lithium (the B-King is 24v starting btw). You may well get away with swapping the old lead acid for a super-duper lithium jobby…...you might not......
The charging system should be suitable for a lithium battery. If the oem battery was not lithium I'd change the reg/rec for a specific mosfet unit with output suitable to the needs of a 13.2v lithium battery. My unit of choice:-

For charging off the bike a good charger is:-

And of course what battery? There's loads out there but I've not heard a bad word said about JMT and Shido batteries which have protection circuits and handy charge indicators:-

Re: Lithium batteries - Brian's tuppence worth
I've had one on my FJR for coming up to two years. Saves a ton of weight (well about 3.5kg). Every little helps on the fjr. Not had any probs with it. Keeps its charge too and seemed to handle heated kit.
Will get them instead of normal for any bike from now on.

Has anybody got experience of their cold weather (uk) performance?
Re: Lithium batteries - Brian's tuppence worth
Starting my fjr in cold was fine. I left it on for 30 secs before cranking the starter and had no problems.

Ditto Busa and B-King. Engine renowned for being difficult to start but the cca of the lithium batteries I use is more than adequate. It's the hard starting that made me go 24v starting for the tuned motor of the B-King - but that's another story....
