Indicator Upgrade??

Post by Dave »

Got myself some new indicators to fit on soon.
Tryed today but didn't have most of my tools.
When I tested the wiring, the new indicators flash really quickly.

Do I need to put a resister in to slow it down :?:
How do I fit it, & where can I buy it :?:

Help please :D

the problem is that the indicators are running the wrong wattage bulbs. Bikes usually run 10W or 21w depending on the flasher relay rating. The easiest answer is to open your old ones and check the markings, then go buy replacements to fit the new units in the right physical size. (of course you could be lucky and find your old ones are the right physical size, in which case just swap them over!)
Hope that helps

if you have led indicators, what is the wattage of each indicator???

then check flasher unit and see what its out put is.

ie. if indicators 15w each dash warning lights are generally 10w then output of indictors is 15+15 (front and back indicators)+10 = 40w so would need 40w flasher unit.

indicators on most bikes are 21w so with warning light flasher unit is 50w ish which makes smaller wattage bulbs flash quickly and brighter for a short time till they blow

I think the LED ones are about 1w.

I got some 50w resistors coming today, that should bring the wattage right down.

Hopefully it'll work without changng the indicator relay

you want to be careful, resistors reduce the voltage but increase the amppage

Hi Dave,

Yep those pesky led indicators will flash faster!! I had to fit a special relay inline with the stock relay on the gixer to get my Harris flush mount indys to work properly.

You need one of these.........

http://www.srdshop.co.uk/?CLASS=Folder& ... 9f47f174#c

If the link don't work, it is a Libertek flasher relay which is fairly easy to install?????? And you will find it on http://www.srd-bikes.com under shop, then libertek. They have soe nice stuff on there too, they are the led kings of bike lighting!!!

Best of luck...........

Cheers Dan.

But I didn't want to spend that much money out on resistors as I'd need one for every indicator.

In the end I took the easy option, swapped my LED indicators for bulb ones in the same style. & got 15 quid back too!!!

Sorry

I THINK you need to fit resistors to LED's as they do not need much power at all. Resistors arent expensive just go into somewhere like maplins and get some.
But hey you went for the easy option that I would have too, stick with bulbs!
