Anyone had any problems similar to this before? I'm pretty sh*te when it comes to the electric side of things..
2003 GSXR 600
Battery is reading bang on 12.5v, the bike has been ridden most days for the last week 1-2 hours at a time.
When you turn the ignition to 'on', the bike primes itself, does it's fancy thing with the speedo and once the digital 'check' has gone from the screen it's when you next hit the start button.
Some times it will start fine no problems. (In neutral, stand up, kill switch off and clutch pulled in). About a third of the time it will start and doesn't sound like the battery is tired - all good.
The rest of the time, you hit the start button and it doesn't attempt to turn the starter over at all, there's no 'clicking' sound from the relay and the lights don't dim, all it does is make the priming fuel injection noise when you hold the start button down, and when you let go it stops.
This means I have to bump start the bike every time! .It bump starts easy and then rides with no problems. Any suggestions?
Cheers!

Re: GSXR K3 Starting Issue?..
As it happens I happen to have a k1 but had is issue with my vw passat. It turned out the battery was fine and fully charged but the connection to the battery leads was very bad. Try disconnecting the leads from the battery and then use some pliers to scratch up the poitive and negitive electrodes. Then do similar on the connecting leads so that it gets a good solid connection.
Then give it a go......
Hope this helps

Re: GSXR K3 Starting Issue?..
I am no mechanic so I may be wrong , but if it starts sometimes and not others then most likely its the starter not turning or some sort of lose/damaged wire connections ect, if you can locate your starter when its not starting and tap it with a hammer or something then see if it starts, if it does then its your starter.
Re: GSXR K3 Starting Issue?..
If your not getting the relay clicking I would put it down to the starter button,
(it's the only thing that controls the relay)
Makes me think that there might have been water ingress or similar and might be worth doing a continuity/resistance check over these wires,
If the starter was sticky usually you get the relay clicking still,
Also if the battery connections were bad it would draw a massive current due to high resistance,
But still should click the relay again.
Unless it's imobilier fault? (But that should cut the fuel pump also)

Re: GSXR K3 Starting Issue?..
Replaced the relay, cleaned the terminals and charged the battery right up - Been on a 5 hour start-stop ride today and it only played up once so it seems better - Think i'll take the switch apart and give that a good clean as well etc as someone suggested - Cheers
