Help needed 'Stuttering' Daytona 675 **FIXED**

Post by Cuckoo »

2009 Triumph Daytona 675

Hi all, so its winter so bike not used every day like my commuter. Used on sunny days when I can. The last time I took it out it was 'stuttering' at low rev's, in traffic or steady low speeds. At high speeds it wasn't noticeable. It lives in a garage along with a tumble dryer. Mr Tumble and Mr Daytona shouldn't really live together but they do. Mr Daytona does get wrapped up warm. After the stuttering I decided to check the condition of the air filter. It was in good condition but i took it out and let it air dry in the house. In the air box is a mesh that was wet. I totally dried out the airbox. took it for another ride yesterday but the same thing is happening. Any ideas what to check next. BTW connected it up to TuneECU but don't really know what i'm looking at. Thanks all.

Then disconnect it.
If you don't know how to use the tools, put them down.

Have you checked the plugs?
Throttle cable for adjustment?

Bring it over if you want.

Siphon the fuel out and fill it up with fresh. You probably have a map or maf sensor in the airbox, could be worth checking or looking if the values are normal on tune.
You could also clean and acf50 or similar all the connectors.
Think a proper outlet on the tumble dryer might help.

Plugs look normal but going to change them anyway as the bike is stripped.

Yep Intake Air temperature sensor
I'll clean all the connectors.

Stable doors and horses come to mind but yes in hand

Excuse my ignorance but normal redex for cars?

Yeah.
It's for fuel, not car specific.

Just don't get the diesel one.

Not sure on this but I'm sure I heard they have a common problem with TPS once you have tried everything else I'll have a look at that.

If tiz same as my set up, there are 3 little vacuum hoses from the throttle bodies. They have tight radii and can crack and / or perish. Check them.

I went to my local marina chandler an bought some corrugated plastic hose. Brilliant stuff.

*UPDATE*
New plugs, cleaned air filter, new battery. Checked electrical connections. Checked hoses. Changed fuel and redexed new tank full.
Still no change. So off to the main dealer.
They ran diagnostic EMRF. It indicated possible injector fault or tight valve clearences. They found sim loose and adjusted but injectors were ok. While finishing off they found a crack in the weld header pipes and suggested the oxygen senor after this may be getting a false reading. So i gun gummed the pin hole just to see before buying new headers but not change, Fault not fixed and £300 lighter.

Any more suggestions? :ympray:

Can check and clean injectors at work for semi sensible money if needed,

Compression test would be next

Who's your dealer?
Sounds like a right load of bull. A loose shim is the opposite to a tight valve and probably wouldn't cause your problem, sounds like taking money for the sake of it.
Now's the time to learn tune. See if you can do a log with it. Failing that try and find a dyno that will use tune at the same time.

*Update 2*

Long story short, when the dealer stripped the engine they found and showed me pictures of the cams that were shot so I've done a complete engine swap. During which I put an angle grinder though my little finger.... time to recoop back on track.

Anyway finished the swap, re set the tps.... same problem ~x(

I'm lost, reading and thinking could be the actual Throttle body sensor? Intake air flap? Haynes says flap closes at 4500rpm that is about the rev's i get the problem. Some forum somewhere mentioned turning the 02 sensor off? Someone mentioned EXUP (don't know anything about that) Someone else spoke about simple grounding connection to coils ( but i think that was on an old triumph). Seems like this problem is around but for many different reasons. But dealer didn't seem to have any answers. FYI i've moved to west sussex now so my dealer is this way. (still be coming your way for rides etc as still own a flat in Torquay!)

EXUP is something that Yamaha's are known for. It's a valve in the exhaust system that regulates back pressure to help the engine run smoother at low revs. If it's playing up the Bike will pull away and then seem to stop, cough, splutter sometimes pull through but others seem like it's running on 3 cylinders. A lot of bikes nowadays seem to have some kind of butterfly valve in the exhaust to do the same job, make sure it's moving freely. You may not have an error code showing if the cable has snapped. This will allow the servo motor to still turn giving the impression it's all ok.

My very first car was a 3 cyl 2T Wartburg (E.German) 3 Coils, 3 sets of points and 3 plugs. Had to strobe time it every few months.

No brakes , no steering and when idling sounded like a bag of spanners.

Never forget a passer-by telling me 'sounds like your only firing on three'
