Perol Cap - wont open

Post by ptolemyx »

B-King has been laid up a while. Took it for mot yesterday and we could not open the petrol cap, key goes in fine but will nut turn. Penetrating oil in barrel overnight but still will not budge. If I cannot get it unlocked how do I remove the filler assembly from the tank? I've taken off the surround and undone the 4 filler assembly bolts so can lift it a little and rotate a little but it will not detach from the tank for further inspection and possible replacement. Any Idea what's keeping it in place? It's a Suzuki so is obviously awkward

There are sometimes bolts inside the area covered by the flap, stop people stealing fuel, or if you live in Chard starting a fire.

It may well be that you have to do it gradually, oil and wd40 over a few days along with a bit of key twisting - gently though.
Got a spare key?

You could try a hairdryer to warm it a little help with oil penetration.

Boooom!!!!!!!

I have had this happen with my Gixxer on and off and have actually found the key sometimes goes into the lock to far and you have to pull the key out (back) a bit to get it to turn.

Got to see it’s a lot worse when you realise your 100 miles from home and you can’t open the tank :-o

If you do not have a spare key get on cut before you go to far , I know from Experience breaking the only key you have in a lock is not good

Meths is for drinking when you can't get rough cider. I Know cuzz I'm from Brizzle origanerly.

Have spare key, tried that. Key goes in normally, will not turn when flap pressed down - which you have to do on bazukis. Ordered cheap replacement filler with keys from China in case I have to resort to the big screwdriver lock destruction method.......

When I first started drinking, the tax on cider was lower than beer. Best bitter was ≈ 10p / pint whilst scrumpy was only ≈ 7p.

Also Somerset pubs stayed open until 11.00 rather than Bristol which shut at 10.30. Therefore, riding over the border got 30 mins extra and the best cider.

As A lad we lived just outside the big metropolops at Banjo Island aka Cadbury Heath. The Lamb welcomed us 13 year olds with welcome arms and we'd get ratarsed on rotgut cider for less than a quid a night :)):

All the normal gentle persuasion and lubrication didn't work. Neither did the abnormal. Tried not so gentle persuasion to no avail. So.......

Actually broke the tumblers before the lock moved. Now opens okay but unlocks with anything to hand. Hope the replacement will fit.......
