Front Brake Squeal

Had a slight squeal from one of my front calliper's earlier in the week, Just washed my bike and fired some water around the callipers, This made the noise a lot louder.
I cant hear any noise under heavy braking, Only when I ease on the brake to come to a gentle stop.
Checked the pad's and it look's like there's still ~3mm on each one, Also couldn't see anything like a stone etc stuck anywhere.

Water won't help. Blasting water won't help more.

Get the pads out and have a look at them.

Calipers off and pads out, give it all a good clean with a toothbrush. Make sure the pads can slide freely in there.

Give the disks a good clean too, I use scotch brite on the braked surfaces sometimes.
Now would also be a good time to clean the disk bobbins to make sure the disk is floating properly. If a disk is no longer free floating it could be why it's now squealing.

Bobbins is a good shout. I used to get that every couple of years on my 9r.

Also the copper slip on the back of the pads when you put it all back together normally helps with getting rid of the squeak.

Don't do this... it use to be a thing with really old brake calipers but now not necessary, and may even be dangerous.

Lots of people do, I've even seen shops do it too.

I guess the first time you use your brakes properly it will melt the carrier grease away, which will most likely drip downwards, and due to the mounting position of the caliper it will drip away from your disc... but there is a slim chance it could blown on to your disk.

Who the hell is that knob, and where did you find him?? What qualifications/authority does he have? I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with his message, but have a natural doubt of a lot of people who pontificate on YouTube channels ..... Especially when their on-screen persona/delivery is so dire ....

YouTube probably recommended him to me ages ago as I often watch "how to" vids before doing a job I haven't done before.

He's in the industry I think, some of his videos were done from his workplace and I'd guess it's a manufacturer or testing lab.

His delivery is irrelevant to me, he just puts out vids to either educate or to actively correct any rubbish put out by other YouTube'rs.

Always use copper slip on the back of the pads. Never use a pressure washer or spray water directly into the brake calipers.

Why..., what is it doing?

If you look at the pads in the caliper, or even at the old pads when you take them out, there is very little actual contact between the pad and the caliper (or pistons). That copper grease is just sitting there doing nothing.

People seem to understand about not getting oil on the discs and/or the pads as that will have an undesirable outcome... but then seem happy to smoother the rear of the pad in grease...

What bike is it??
Does it have anti squeal plates, or more important.

Should it and we they missing?

Just strip everything apart and make sure they are all free.
