A random 1,I'm for sure not the only person on here that has a project bike in the shed/garage on the go ..how do you guys/girls insure it or do you just have it covered under contents insurance? I just had a thought as it's now very easy to push out and not in boxes anymore

Currently sorned and very much project bikes are my B-King and Fazer thou. Insured on my multi bike policy which I have been assured does cover them even when sorned and without a current mot. The mot only assures that the vehicle was safe to use on the road at time of testing and is not a stipulation for insurance cover.
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

Do you have that in writing, or even better is that stated in T&C's?

I agree with you 100% but the insurance companies can insert whatever conditions they want, and if you agree to them it forms the contract.

I have read where people have challenged them (when needing to claim for an out of MOT bike that was stolen) and the insurer has backed down... but I have also read of some where they didn't. TBH it's not a position I'd like to find myself in.

I looked into this years ago and was told that I'd need to find specialist 'layover cover' if my bike was being stored as the MOT clause was final. This meant that my bike then had to do a 20 mile round trip every year for its MOT.

One positive thing about that though is that the basic insurance was more or less the cost as the 'lay over' cover but it at least build up my NCB and made it look like I'd be riding consistently for all that time, which insurers like to see.

I would look into classic bike insurance as your project bike might qualify, they are often very flexible, and cheap.

I have a let's say sensible MOT guy but I dont imagine he will pass the mot as yet and my insurance does state mot must be valid so I shall look at classic insurance and read the T&C the bike is almost 39 years old so should be ok on classic insurance if not i shall check if my contents will cover but wanted something that would specifically cover a bikebkn a project state

Just over 1 year to go then, until you are MOT exempt anyway, and tax for that matter.
