If I remember it was when I was with MCE
Rang to check and was told needed valid MOT and Tax else insurance would be invalid. The whole point of sorning was that I wouldn’t pay tax for the 6 months the bike was off the road.

Now seriously wondering if this was just an insurance company trying to wiggle out of the policy I had already purchased.

More likely whoever you spoke to didn't know so just blagged it "being on the safe side".
Problem is, if you have phoned your insurance company for advice and they have told you that then what are you suppose to do.
Still.. you'll not fall for that again now.
