Robbo's Blackdown Bimble - Sat' 11th August.

Post by Robbo87 »

It's gonna get wet later in the day it seems, so timewise this will be a Sparrows Fart start.

Leaving: Smileys Cafe, Turks Head Lane, Honiton EX14 1BQ @ 0630 hrs. Fueled up ready please, BP station just up the road. Here's the google link for Smileys: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Smi ... d-3.208314

Route: Approx 100 miles. All over the Blackdowns taking in some favourite old twisties and some new ones; this'll be a highways & byways run and we'll be 'making progress' where possible, so not really learner-friendly sorry, Simon's 'Friendly' run on the 19th is ideal for that.

Finish: Smileys Cafe in plenty of time for brekkie and/or a cuppa ~o) :D ~o) - around 0830-0900 hrs I reckon.

Notes: Drop-off system with TEC if the world and his dog turn up, 'Eyes-in-the-mirrors' if just a few.

As I've got to work late all next week and being away for the following weekend I think I'll come along tomorrow if that's OK.
Do you have a route that can be downloaded or is it all in your head?

Phil doesn't need nav tech. The Fut is self-guiding. Through years of hard practice it knows the Devon roads better than he does. It's basically like a mechanical homing pigeon. Same colour too.

O.k. folks, weather's looking much the same as projected, possibly getting damp on the higher ground later, around 1000 hrs. So RBB is deffo on, and because of aforementioned presip - prissep - pricipt - rain later . . . . . we'll deffo be leaving Smileys at 0630 sharp to beat it - and get ourselves a well-earned cuppa & brekkie/bacon sarnie/whatever at Smileys when we return.
See you all there.

Oh, and just to be clear on it - I'm aiming for around two and a bit hours max' & approx' 100 miles non-stop, Smileys to Smileys; and the route is a mixture of A roads, B roads and - er' some proper Devon 'roads' - if you know the Blackdown Hills, you'll know what I mean; and if you don't, you will!

It's all in my head - not quite seat-of-the-pants stuff, but close; and if I forget and/or get lost, Gimlet's analogy of the Homing Pidgeon instincts of my Fut will prove correct by kicking in and saving the day - and my blushes  .
