How to remove coloured anodisation
The previous owner had put on some nice foot pegs but I have no idea why they chose that colour.
Doesn't go with anything on the bike...
I've been putting it off for ages but today was the day to deal with them.
Took the pegs off, gave them a good scrub.
..and now for my weapon of choice...
Mr Muscle...
It didn't do anything for a minute so I decided to get in there with an old toothbrush, and sure enough it started to work.
After about 5 mins I gave them a wash to see where we are..
so, one more application, a wash off, and a little fettle in places with metal polish and we have this.
I'm happy with that.
Took about 20 minutes in total

There adjustable positions pegs also, so would be interested in checking what brand they are as usually most are far east origin.
Personally would have gone down the media/vapour blast as would give a finish similar to the rest in a mottled slightly dull finish.

Coke could be effective
Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?
Re: How to remove coloured anodisation
They are a Brand called M-factory, which as far as I can tell is of far east origin. They are solid though and have taken my full weight often. I stand up sometimes
Yes they are adjustable, which is handy as the PO must have had small feet.
Media/vapour blasting sounds like a lot of effort compared to a quick spray of oven cleaner, not to mention needing access to a media blaster.
I read up about the colour anodising process because at first I thought the colour was actually electroplated on there but it isn't. It's just coloured dye added during the process, so it seemed to me that to chemically wash it out was as good a way as any.
Oven clean strips the top layer away and then removed the dye quickly.
It does leave a dull finish behind though, which doesn't matter for the knurled effect places but on the sides you could see it. I then gave it a very quick polish just to see and it came up nice.
Not sure if it'll last, time will tell.
Thanks.
I have hated them ever since I bought the bike but I think you just stop seeing things. I decided today was the day, either fix'um or f###'um!
Dunno - Not sure it's aggressive enough TBH.

Yay! You did it!
Looks so much better now, they really did 'shout' "bolt on" rather than useable mod.... ;)

In the late 90's they did some bloody awful anodized cans, red , blue or purple almost as bad as stubby cans.

ah.. I must admit I am now hunting for anything else that might need de-anodising.
