Episode 955 - A New Hope

Post by MellowYellow »

Old girl is en route to chez moi.

Went to see it earlier.

N/S Fairing smashed into 10 or so pieces. Some other cosmeticals. Gear lever demolished. Water pump housing holed. One bar end damaged. Started first time but as no water, turned it off immediately.

2 metre skid mark on road but no other indications as to cause.

Arrived in double-quick time with SOS Bike Recovery from WsM. Helpful, knowledgeable and courteous.

I'm in neutral at the mo but when I can get it on the centre stand and regain some bodily strength, we'll have a look. Can't get full lock one side, brake pedal jammed.

In vino veritas :-s :-s :-s

Good luck on that one, if the motor is running thats a start. After that its check the frame is straight. If that's good its strip and rebuild and back onto the road !

Been doing psycho exercises for a couple of days now - felt fit enough to sit in the gutter for an hour or so.

Replaced magnesium crank case cover. Removed FLH footrest assembly.

Managed to get it into neutral with the help of mister water-pump-pliers.

Removed mirrors, headlights and all fairing.

The 'Y' bracket supporting all this has been narrowed from 33 cm to 30.

Changed lights / instruments / screen bracket. Re-fitted instrument panel.

Fitted new horn and gave bottom yoke a wipe over while I was in there.

That'll do for today,

Had to remove horn in order to stuff 8 miles of electrics into front fairing.

90% done, re-fit horn tomorrow and fit RH side panel.

Of all things to get in the way the horn was a problem x_x

Motorbike horns are small little round things.... of all the things to get in the way :?

Have completely re-positioned the new horn. Twas larger then the original and tangled with electrics at full lock(s).

Front fairing fully fitted, all lights and HORN working.

RH side panel ready to fit tomorrow. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

All back together now bar the go-faster pillion seat cowl, which is curing overnight.

I reckon Bodgit & Hope have done quite well.

Waiting for the gear lever to arrive so removed the salt-damaged pillion hangers (one fixes the silencer as well). Absolutely horrid state.

Scraped and sanded, will paint tomorrow.

Postman Pat arrived today with my gear lever. Tiz for a Suzuki but supplier sent me dimensions which I thought would do.

Especially after a large 'off'' I reckoned the Suzi part would be at home.

Spent most of the day trying to bodjit.

Wine...bed...tomorrow...
