So winter is nearly here.......

Post by billinom8s »

What bike plans or projects have you got in store???

Personally I've got a few lined up for when i get my cast off and have both hands again( who would have thought that not having use of a thumb would hinder stuff??)

Fazer
Gonna pull the forks and shock apart to service them, chances are they've never been apart so will be fairly useless, will also fit my old R1 springs in there to give it a bit of life.

ZX10
Got a small oil leak, need to get the fairings off to see if it's a gasket gone or just a bolt coming loose. Adventure.

KTM
The biggy. It's service interval time. Brake strip, fluid change - clutch, coolant and brakes. Fork strip, shock strip and valve clearances. Air filter clean, bearing greasings and I'm sure some other bits will appear.

Then get back out on the road, just cos it's colder or a bit damp doesn't mean the bike won't be out.

Plus any other garage work I can pick up

Triumph rebuild,
Crf refresh and enjoy.
Speed triple, clean.
Track bike speak sweetly to a suspension guru and see what options I have for rear shock upgrade.

990 SD - Coolant hose replacement, Oil & filter, air filter clean... but not until Spring though.
1190 Adv - Nothing, will just clean and put in the tent with the SD, switch the heat lamps on and leave them to hibernate.

DRZ400 - needs an oil & filter change now (before the 1st ride of the winter). Will set up spare wheels with with road tyres and road gearing so I still have a road bike of sorts, might do to scratch that itch when not green laning.
1190 Adventure S, 990 Superduke, DRZ-400E - all the bases covered.

Engine out, engine split and replace gears as issue with shifting from 1st to second.
Superfinish gears and replace bearings on replacement gears.
Fit new full slipper clutch and replacement clutch.
Fit lap timer and lean angle sensor.

Then get on the track :-bd

Lube the chain.

Ride the [Censored] thing. I've spent enough money on heated clothing so best to use it.

I take it I'll be riding on my own then.....
KTM 1190ADV - sold

Busa:-
Repair cosmetic damage after it rolled off the sidestand - doh
Fairings off and complete gleamodent and inspection of what lurks beneath, including strip and regrease suspension linkage.
Oil and filter change.
New fork oil and see if I can afford better springs cos' it bottoms out even though I'm a fair bit lighter than when I bought the barge (we know who I'll get to do that don't we).

B-King:-
Currently rewiring the complete charging system with new generator, mosfet reg/rec and connectors.
New battery.
Convert to 24V starting using existing lithium battery in the starting circuit.
Better indicators (like recently fitted to the Busa)
Sort out decals for recent paint scheme, which will be prepped for more lacquer.

Fazer:-
Continue with the front brake upgrade, have the bits, just need to fit.
New chain & sprockets.
Again, better indicators.
And I'll look at fabricating a custom rear end - R6 tail perhaps???
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

So, everyones doing maintenance then. Where are the proper projects? combining a gold wing, a fizzy and a razr to create some sort of mad max reject? Stripping back an rcv211 to make a flat-tracker? putting knobblies on a blade for the Weston beach race?

I think for starters this might finally be the year the TL gets its long awaited makeover ..... there's only so long it can live with naked carbon bodywork and a silver frame!

Think I might also look for something else to add to the crowd, to justify building a car-port .......
