Bike event today (30th Dec)?

Post by Jug »

I saw about 40 bikes today in convoy, looked like they might have been travelling up from Axminster but then headed along the A30 towards Chard.

Were you out with them?
Anyone know what group the ride was organised with?

We were on the gawd-awful bleedin' A35, pm today, heading for a friend's birthday bash at the Bakers Arms near Poole, and there were plenty riders about, some looking bored out of their skulls.
Consensus of opinion in my cage was that they fell in to one of two camps; 1. Fairweather riders out for what they probably consider an exciting winter's day out on their precioussss or 2. Proper riders using the A35 to get to some decent roads.

It’s where you get your bike out, ride it how you like, where you like and at whatever speed you like. Novel eh? :)): Lol!

I’m resisting any temptation to take the road bike out - it’s currently spotless and on stands in the garage, and the tax expires tonight so I’ll probably SORN it to remove further temptation.
Yesterday Chicky and I took the off-roaders out and went up the Fosse for a bit, further than we’d been previously. I expected it to be a bit flat, straight and graded, like the bit we already knew (immediately north of the M4), and the next section was like that, also notable were the churned up and rutted verges where the tossers in 4x4s had insisted on trying some “proper” off-roading  The following sections were gated with a prohibition of all vehicles except motorcycles and a “no cars” sign    these were much more fun and interesting. We were a little time (and daylight)-constrained so we turned back before reaching Kemble airfield, and made the effort to do one top lane on our way home - proper muddy! :-bd this morning we have to wield the pressure washer on bikes and boots as we didn’t have enough light after getting back. Beats winter road riding any day :D

Absolutely it does... :D and it teaches you skills that you can't learn easily on a road bike, but are good to have for when shit hits the fan.
