Rossi's Retirement

Post by Jay »

Well i guess you have all seen the news on social media.....
That the GOAT VR46 Valentino Rossi will retire from MotoGP at the end of the 2021 season..
A sad day for MotoGP and motorsport in general.

So who is going to Silverstone for his last British MotoGP?

I know this may be controversial,

I think this has been along time overdue,
There are plenty of other riders which could have benefitted with that ride when rossi came back from ducati.
I hope he stays around the paddock with the vr46 moto3 team etc,

I just hope new talent coming through the ranks will benefit from it.

It's a sad day when a character like his steps down. Although he hasn't really been competitive the last few years, (that said, is still a hell of a rider)he has always been the flagship rider for the sport bringing in new fans etc.

It will be interesting to see who emerges as the focal point.

He's provided many millions of peeps with many thousand miles of enjoyment. Probably left it one year too long but if he's enjoying it then why not ?

I recall much the same with Ago...

In a sport like motogp, he wouldn't be there if there wasn't value in the teams paying his not insubstantial salary.

Whatever else is said, he leaves a legacy only one or two will ever be capable of echoing statistically, and even fewer of a charisma/personality/human impact level.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how he re-invents himself :-bd

I have to say that I think its the right call to make. He has been bumped from the main team at Yamaha as he was not delivering the results and the new young guns are on the way up. With the like of Marquez about it has made it really difficult for Rossi to shine but got to say loved the battles that Rossi and Lorenzo used to have there were some of my favorite races to watch.

As said above really hope he stays in the paddock as he still has a lot to offer the sport.
