Post by Chris88 »

Hey everyone I'm 29 and live in okehampton Devon. Currently on a process to get my CBT soon and start my motorcycle experience.
Been researching and looking for a long time now I'm finally in a good position to go ahead.
I found this on my research for a nice group of South West so then I join the group on Facebook and now I'm here..

hi chris, welcome to swb.

best time to take the cbt is winter, you get used to riding in all the crappy weather and then come summer it's all easy. Good luck with it and keep us popsted with the progress.

in the meantime, don't hold back on asking questions and getting stuck in. You'll find most of the activity is on here and not the fb page as that is just used as a flyer.

At the moment I drive a zafira tourer :)):  :D
No bike yet. I'm very open when it comes to buy a 1st 125 but will be at a dealership either new (very unlikely) or second hand.
I will do lot of miles and more on nights as I work nights so I'll be driving on very dangerous environments to start with but like everything in life is so roll on :ympeace:

Hi and welcome.
I think the most important part of winter riding (apart from obviously keeping bike up together and riding safe) is the kit you wear. It's hard if you're freezing cold.

Hi everyone again.
Well... Just a bit of an update....

1st. Sorry about the delay....
2nd. Just done my cbt yesterday. Sat 22 of june
3rd. I never thought geared bike was that different to a car. (slipping, etc)
4th. Didn't went too bad.but....

I need more practice and at the moment I'm for a hunt of a 125 that can provide me that. As I'm 30 now I can go and take full licence but I don't feel that confident yet as I stalking too much and keep front braking a lot...

Cutting long story short. I LOVE It!!! The weather was marvelous and the instructor was excellent.

Thanks for reading
See you all soon

Keep it up Chris. Getting a 125 is definitely a good plan.
My mrs rides a 50cc scooter from time to time but bought an MT-125 last year for practise towards getting a full license, and within about 3 rides she felt ready to start the process.
Being that you're already a car driver means you should have road basics sorted, you just need to learn the extra bits that apply to bikes.

Will depend on your budget and how long you plan to keep it.

If it was me I'd get something Japanese for £200-300, get the confidence up, run around on it and then take the test.

Buy an off road 125, itll make road riding alot easier if your used to sliding around in the mud. Its way more fun than court appearances and points aswell lol

Yeah that's the plan billi. So far I can't find anything yet on that range but hope some will come along.

Thanks for the replies

Well done on doing the CBT. What do you mean front braking? That's where most of the braking on a bike is done. There are some instances where the back is used but you'll find you stop a LOT faster with the front. Squeeze the brake progressively don't grab it. Plenty of you tube vids.

Are you going to get a few lessons? It might help you get more confident.

When I say front braking I meant squeezing too hard.
