Totally agree about test riding both and maybe a couple of others to get a more rounded opinion. Maybe worth considering if you will take a pillion within the time you keep the bike as that's not going to be an option on a bobber.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
I took my test on a MT-07 really enjoyed it and was very comfortable, from what I’ve read and seen the XSR is basically the same bike just with different styling.
I’ve taken my Friends bobber black around the block (1hr), that is what made me want a bobber, but sadly I can’t afford a bobber black.
In regards to the other responses,i won’t be carrying a pillion for at least 7years as my eldest is only 6.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
hi. new to the forum. hope you are all well.
really trying to find a road that me and my family drove when i was a kid that would be great to ride.
i was about 8 or 9. i was in the back of my dads car with my sis. we would holiday in two places in devon - westward ho! and ilfracombe.
We would travel from near birmingham so we would take the m5 then come off at junction 27 and then a361 and then split around barnstaple.
One time though my dad didnt take the normal route. instead he took aroad around there( sorry to be so vague) and i remember it was an open road, you could see a long way. i felt up high. my biggest memory is that we turned a right, nothing around both sides, no forests or buildings but once we turned that right the road disappeared. it literally disappeared! For my 9 year old brain there was no road for around a second or two. what happened was that the road just dived down. it was such a steep road i had to put my feet on the frame of my dads seat! straight in front of us aswell we could see the road went up as steep as road we were on and there was a coach or bus on it. My sister and I also think we remember this happened twice on the same road within 15-20 mins of each other. quite memorable!
i have been trying to find this road forever. i have tried "driving" roads on google street view but you cant get the gradient on them and nothing looks the same. I am hoping that someone has drove a road like the description i have given.
i pretty sure it wasnt near the coast but looking at the maps we could have possibly got off early at junction 26 or 25 for some reason and thats how we found this road which my sister and i called the rollercoaster road.
my friend who has done a few tours to lynton and lynmouth thinks there is something around dulverton but i have streetviewed it and it all looks closed in so i am not sure he is right.
i have put a map on here where i think the road is in. i know its not a small area but.......
Any one out there thinking they know the road please get in touch. i would love to build a tour around the rollercoaster road.
Thanks for reading and for any help in the future.

Sounds to me like the 'roller coaster road' near Torrington.
B3227
The stretch from the A377 near Umberleigh to torrington itself..

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
Yep . South Molton to Torrington is a great road and a favourite of ours . Not as open as is being described but there is definitely a couple of bits that certainly feel as if you are on a rollercoaster!
Even more so if you’re pushing on a bit !

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
It was 36 years ago!
YouTube has some vids of the b3227 in both directions. Great looking road. I will definitely ride when I get down there.
But.......
The ups and downs arent steep enough for what I remember. Plus from where we drove from I think it would have been above the a361 and not below.
Any other options?
Many thanks for replying.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
That's only a single Hill and is covered in trees, plus is a switchback so the Road never 'disappears'.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
Has me stumped. There is not a road as described in the area.....and I've ridden every single one round here from ones that actually have white lines down the middle to ones that have mounds of grass and gravel down the middle and potholes you could lose yourself in for days.
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
The roads into lynton etc are pretty steep but you'd think that the sea would be a reminder.
Plus what seems like mental steep to a 9yr old City kid may be like a gentle decline to a local.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
Having now read Brummie Steve's post in full ( ), he HAS to be describing the two switcbacks on the B3227 between Atherington and Great Torrington. On the approach to the descent of one of at least one of the two hills there is a 20% steep hill warning - that's a 1 in 5 in old money.

Re: Newbies.. Ask us Anything??
In videos it doesn't look as bad as it is.
Got to agree has to be the torrington road.
