If it's mid term you don't have to tell them.

Nerr-nerr sweetie pops, check the small print. Most usually say you are obliged to tell them as soon as possible/practicable of anything which may impact the policy/premium. That includes convictions .......

a ban will increase insurance premiums, depending on his employment he could lose his job, worse still he could be made to ride a gixer or goldwing for a year
I heard that!

Even if hes rhe boss, hes got to put down what effect losing his license would have. Doea it mean he cant support dependants? Would thw employment of his workers be afdected?

So is he... now... :)):
At first he wasn't best pleased.
He still maintains a short ban would have been better, yes it would have cost more in the long run but he wouldn't have this hanging over him for the next three years. Adding 6 points (to his recent 3) means he's now just 1 small offense away from a potential 6 month ban. It is so easy to pick up an SP30 from a fixed speed camera that he's got to be on high alert now, and for the next 3 years. :(

In making a good case for the impact a ban would have on those around him, he was hoping that might persuade them to make it short ban..., but I think that was never an option. I think it was going to be a 1-2 month ban or 6 points.

I went in with him btw as I was interested in what happens, and it was a good excuse to have a few beers afterwards. :D
My impression was that in this instance a lawyer would not have helped. He made no excuse for what he did, he apologised and explained what happened that day. They quizzed him on what impact a ban would have and decided against it. What was unexpected was the 1/3 reduction in the fine due to pleading guilty.

So... we're both glad that is now over and he's just going to have to behave himself from now on.

And therein is the very reason they did it. Give him a ban, and he'd be back to his bad ways within weeks. Now it'll be a few months at least ......

I disagree, I think you've missed something in my account or are reading in something that is not there.
Your comment infers that they choose the points as it would have a more lasting effect, which although is actually true, was not the case. Their intention was the give a ban, and they stated as such, they only didn't because of the impact it would have on others.
