It's been fully vented textiles with all the CE armour gubbins and a back protector for me for the last three days. My Riossi leathers are part vented but with the temp's we've had recently I got parboiled in them at slow speed in traffic  . Good vented textiles deffo have a place in high summer imho.

Day to day i wear textiles, it's easier, i must admit I've only had a lowish speed off when wearing but they (my last set) completely saved me. If I get the chance of a proper ride then would probably still wear them, tend to only wear my leathers on track days.

Leathers, decent helmet, proper boots and decent gloves regardless of the weather. I find the leathers cool enough if naked underneath - it just gets a bit sticky

Today I wore my leather bottoms as my textile ones aren't vented but the leathers are.
Top - I wore my vented textile, my leather is possible cooler but has no pockets... I do like to have pockets... :D

Underneath the above, just my crusties and a T-shirt. x_x

Yep, this kind of weather brings the Skin Crayons out in force, not just clueless idiots on scoots and 125s with L-plates a-fluttering, but plenty of other clueless idiots who really should know better than to ride their big sports bikes in T-shirts and shorts....

I'm not advocating mandatory levels of protective clothing for riders, but perhaps some form of financial redress for the medical costs incurred in hospitalising and treating someone for a 60mph slide-off from which they'd have walked away with nothing worse than bruises had they been wearing proper gear.

Similarly, the Darwin Award contenders who want to ride without helmets. Let them, as long as they wear a dog tag engraved with "DO NOT RESCUSITATE"...

I saw a big group of old guys riding high powered scooters yesterday, many of them were dressed like our tourists in Spain.

I make two points -
1. If riding in town, at town speeds (max 20/30mph), what is the difference to being on a bicycle? Would you wear full leathers to ride a bicycle??
2. For a couple of reasons neither of my bikes are taxed or MOT'd at present so my response is appropriate to my Range Rover....

"Gear Nazis" annoy me in their often hypocracy. Don't want mandated CE clothing, want to be able to buy cheap £50 textiles from J&S, but grumble about people exercising their freedom to wear what they like.

If riding on a dual carriageway at 70, than yes they're idiots ..... But in town at 20-30? Like I said the direct comparison is a bicycle and they manage quite well in a single layer of lycra .....

Hi Moose

Feel free to do as you please. your life, your body, your skin.......

Personally will not go out on my bike unless in biking boots, gloves, helmet and some kind of biking jacket and trousers with armor and skid resistant. Will also try and buy the gear with the best rating or best protection that my budget will allow. So also agree that cheap motorbike jeans with the kevlar label on the back being the only bit of kevlar in the jeans a total no go area.

Totally agree with your point about bicycle and the recent accident by Red5 who is now going into hospital for eye operations and metal plates following an accident goes to show how riding unprotected is going to hurt if you fall off anything with wheels even at 10mph

I speak only for myself when i say
I am old
I dont bounce well
If i fall off I want to be as protected as possible so i can walk away swearing at my bike and myself

If like the BMW S1000RR rider who came past me on a dual carriage way yesterday in trainers, jeans and a t-shirt (half flapping up his back) is the way somebody wants to ride............. I wish you all the best and hope you never fall off...... and hope I am never there to see it.
