Morning all, I have an 08 Fireblade converted to a track bike. Standard engine the only addition is an HM quick shifter. Done only 4000 miles, had regular oil changes and has always ran like a dream. But has now developed a rattle from somewhere around the engine. Its there on tick over but does not increase speed when engine in revved. Also rattle vanishes when riding or when engine is under load.
All gears work and there is no loss of power...
I have tried to places and one said it could be cam chain tensioner other no idea. But both have told me to continue to run it to see if it develops further to narrow down.
I am meant to be a Landow next Saturday and dont really want it to go bang but also dont want to cancel if its useable..
Have you guys any ideas?
Cheers
Malc

Chock your engine mounting bolts.
I had a similar issue on an old Kawasaki. Turned out the bolt had worked loose and the rattle was the washer.
I thought the rattle was something serious.

If it's only 4000 miles old, has it had any service work done? Could be cam chain, but it could be several things. Think simple first, any loose body work or fasteners? If not does the rattle go away when the engine is warm? Are you mechanically minded, if so you might consider resetting your cam chain tensioner. Otherwise without hearing the noise it's hard to say much more.
