Lap timers

Post by Jimbo04zx10r »

Thinking about getting a lap timer and wanted to know if anyone has one or uses one. Looking for recommendations on types and models but must be simple to use! :-bd

Interesting, as I'm totally useless with tech until I get my head round how it works.

There's an app for that. Just so long as somebody on the day has marker u can use it for free.

I want to try and stay away from using to many components, would like a simple all in-one unit which I could possible download on to my pc to overlap with my videos but not a necessity.

Then most people use race chrono.
Can use your phone but only updates once a second and can get dodgy cut lines.
A GPS receiver like the Q-star 10hz is much better and consistent. (Which is probably like what layne has)

Starlane stealth. Nice and small. Learns the track on the sighting laps. Can be hidden easily. Only had a problem once at Snetterton with the marshalls. Luckily I'd done the siting laps so just switched it on first lap

Think he wants to sell it all together, as he has a friend who maybe interested in the bike.

Jimbo I used to be into lap timers in a big way however they tend to have a negative effect on your day as you try and push and push harder each session. I have found the best lap timer of all is a go pro (or other brand) that way you can video all your laps and play them back after the event. If you want tominow your lap times just watch the vid from start line to start line and you have your lap time.

If you do really want a lap timer then I can not recommend Race chrono enough very simple to use get great output and even shows you your lines break and acclearation points so you can get all geeky about it. If you see some of Gav’s vids on you tube he also links his vid with the race chrono data and it gives you a Moto GP style to the video.
