Types of rideouts, so you get what you want from the day

Post by billinom8s »

Hope these few lines help when deciding on coming for a run with SWB

Summer Rideout
Generally 5 groups, posted route, people put themselves into a group depending on how they gauge their riding pace/ability. Each group has a leader and tail end charlie (tec) and junction markers (how we do it will be explained later).

Friendly Ride
One big ride out, for ALL abilities, any bike over 125cc, pillions, newbies, born agains etc etc. Normally I lead the run and ride at posted speed limits throughout the day. Everyone gets stuck in and takes part in junction marking, don't panic if you haven't done it before, it'll be explained on the day.We use riders for the junctions so that nobody(we normally get between 20 and 50 bikes) in theory gets lost. There will also be a hi viz wearing rider at the back of the group (TEC) who is at the back all day. Anyone on a 125cc has the option to stay with the lead rider and not be a junction marker. PLEASE REMEMBER, AS EVERY JUNCTION WILL BE MARKED, THERE IS NO NEED TO RIDE OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE, YOU WON'T BE LEFT BEHIND.
Route posted up on site.

Early rides
Anyone can organise these, designed to go out and have some fun before all the cars get out and clog up the roads, generally not warp speed but spirited. Depending on how many turn up determines on whether or not junction markers are used.
Route pm'd out to those who ask.

General rides
Anyone can organise (please do anyone who reads this) and are run at whatever pace is decided by the organiser. As you see names going down on the list you can pretty much conclude as to what pace the ride will go at, if at all concerned just pm the organiser and they will tell you.
Route pm'd out to those who ask.

Junction Markers/Tail End Charlie TEC
Marking junctions helps keep everyone going in the same direction, we use the drop off system onour runs. The ride leader will indicate where he wants the following rider to stop so that everyone else knows where to turn. They will then stay there until the TEC passes and then join back in with the group. On the friendlies junction markers will have an armband so that others will notice them as they make their way back to the front of the group. Generally on the friendlies the junction markers are the more experienced riders that can safely make their way back to the front without un nerving the other riders.
The TEC will stay at the back of the line for the duration of the rideout, they will normally have a bright bib on identify themselves to the other riders.

RTTB
This stands for RUN TO THE BUN.
In a nutshell, Lands End destination then off to Penzance for breakfast. Various pickups along the way down - route will be posted with approximate times. First departure time is Exeter services at...........0330 hrs.
The ride is steady, probably not suited to 125's but not silly and we use a drop off system and TEC. We normally get to Lands End around 6am and then off to Penzance where there is a cafe that opens up early for us and the food is pretty damn good. Route
back home is peppered with stops for coffee, ice creams and for some........cake.

SPIRITED RIDES
This isn't code for anything, these rides will have a spirited feel to them, might be more inclined towards the more throttle happy among you. Of course it all depends on who is leading the ride as to how spirited it might be. If in any doubt, just pm the ride leader and ask them. No one wants to go out and feel uncomfortable on pace or technicallity so for your own piece of mind, drop them a line.

BIMBLE
Normally a gentle saunter through the countryside populated with many coffee, cake, wee wee, bike shop stops.

If more specific answers are required about the rideout, route/pace etc, don't hesitate in asking the organiser.

DON'T FORGET, ANYONE POST, PLAN AND LEAD A RIDE, WE DON'T STAND ON CEREMONY HERE.

If you have never organised or lead a ride before and want to, just send a pm out to known rideout leaders or even to me and i'll try to help you out with what I have learnt.

Magical mystery tour

This type of rideout is a bit like fight club. Without Brad Pitt of course.

Those that have been on previous magical mystery tours are sworn to secrecy about how it works or runs.
It's a fun day but limited to 10 riders.
