Why do you think so many accidents lately??

My 2 cents
As a mechanic I drive loads of different bikes every day and on the whole the majority of them are not going to fail suddenly or cause accidents. There are always a couple of odd exceptions here and there with owner who think they know best and drive around on death traps but that's their' problem and if the don't listen then there's not a lot you can do.
What I have noticed is that a lot of riders on sports bike get very narrow minded while driving an dfocus only on where they want to go and not what's around them. Having been cut up by a Ducati joining the A30 who nearly took out my front wheel (on a customers bike) without looking in his mirrors to see if anyone was around, I have a bit of a bug bear about it at the moment, but as said, a lot of riders stop watching whats around them and drive like they're on a track, so when the 120Mph corner has a 3 inch bump that steps the back end out and makes you slide across the carriagway they're left scratching their' road rash wondering why they came off.
Save it for the track and ride to live on the roads.

everyone without exception likes to think its other people and not them doing the dumbass manouvres and riding to fast, we all think we are good riders - the reality is we should all concern ourselves more with our own riding and stop worrying about other peoples.
I always find the save it for the track line a little trite... life would be dull without a bit of risk.
feel free to use the roads as your race track, but if you do just try not to die on them. Thats the way I look at it.

Ok we all hate speed limits or at least getting nicked for breaking them
but at the end of the day there will always be those that are not so quick thinking as others, car drivers that think about other things than driving and do not see what is going on around them, a friend of mine had a bad accident in his reliant robin (no joke), a fiesta driver behind him hit him straight up the arse at 50 mph as he stopped to wait for an oncoming car while turning right, the fiesta driver was watching a buzzard he admitted the old bill did not do anything my mate just about lost the sight in one eye, truth is there are too many people out there who think they are gods gift to driving riding they need to grow up and realise that other things are on the road and they need respect , now i drive an artic and realise what damage it can do, but what worries me most are the vans around, yesterday went from north devon to exeter in the car doing a steady 80 mph along the A30 from okehampton to exeter i was amazed by the vans passing me and dissapearing possibly doing 100mph+ and a lot of cars doing the same
Ride safely folks take care, there are a lot of you i have not met yet and i want to see you all at sometime in the future

i'm with jason - there's nothing you can do about anyone else's bad riding or driving except expect them to do the most ridiculous or dangerous thing - at least that way they won't surprise you when they do.
only thing i would change is, if you do choose to use the road as a racetrack, over and above not killing yourself, try not to kill anyone else....

So, what your' saying is, you can do what the bloody hell you like, but EVERYONE ELSE has to drive safely. Well, in case you hadn't noticed, if everyone drives not caring what's happening around tehm and expects everyone else to drive safely then NO ONE drives safely and we all get f**ked up.chris_1127 wrote:i'm with jason - there's nothing you can do about anyone else's bad riding or driving except expect them to do the most ridiculous or dangerous thing - at least that way they won't surprise you when they do.

you're completely missing the point, and putting words in my mouth. where did I suggest that I wasn't going to ride safely and to hell with everyone else???
my main concern when I am riding is my own safety which by definition includes what is going on around me. I can't do anything else about how other people ride, so I will concentrate on my own riding and safety which includes expecting other people to be morons on the road. that way I'll be prepared and won't be surprised when some idiot nearly takes out my front wheel joining a motorway....
if someone chooses to use the road as a race track then so be it - not a lot you can do about it except hope that they do it with other people's safety above and beyond their own in their own mind.
i'd like to think I've got a pretty good understanding of consequence - I'm happy to stand by, and take responsibility for any decision that i make. but thanks for asking. how's your take on sanctamonious?

whooah, take a chill pill dude, what he is saying is, exspect the unexspected from other people, thats all.AbWill wrote:So, what your' saying is, you can do what the [Censored] hell you like, but EVERYONE ELSE has to drive safely. When I taught on the bikes i told my students to remember everyone on the road is a pratt, always exspect the unexspected from other road users, dont ever think you know what they are going to do, because they will sometimes do the complete opposite.
LOL Sorry, early morning, not reading properly and I like to stirr it up a bit!! Peoples best opinions always come out clearly when they're defending their own corner!!!
Yes, I was prepared when he came storming out of the junction. It was one of those moments you could see coming!! Am glad you'll stand by your' decisions because so many of the bikers out there go way to fast and them blame something else for causing a smash. (You should hear some of the excuses I get for doing repair estimates!!)
I spose I get more annoyed by people like Jason who do whatever the hell they like and cause problems for all the decent bikers out there and put the government in a position of having to consider speed limiters!!
Yes, I have been told I'm sanctimonious, but only when I'm arguing!!!!!!!!!

no worries. got to stand by your decisions - if you don't admit your mistakes you never learn from them
I've never met Jason but do respect a lot of his opinions from his posts on here - dont think for one minute he's saying go out and ride like an idiot and to hell with everyone else. think hes just of the same opinion that biking isn't supposed to be a safe, sanitised passtime - sometimes the risk is half the buzz and if I wanted safe and sanitised I'd take up knitting...
.
it's miseducation and the incorrect belief that speed is directly related to accidents that makes the government consider things like speed limiters. bad driving or riding causes accidents, not speed. and you can be a bad driver/rider and cause accidents whether you're doing 20 or 120 miles an hour.
