PC Help Needed

Post by speedy(delboy) »

My daughters PC wont start up properly :? :?

It turns on, starting the loading thingy, then comes up with start in Safe Mood etc etc, weather you say safe mood or not, it just sits there trying to restart again and again and again ending up always on the safe mood page :?: :?: :?:

Anyone :?: :?:

Please only reply if ya know what your talking about, as my daughter is giving me grief and i need this sorted. Cheers

So it constantly reboots itself? no matter if you choose to boot normally or in safe mode?

Sounds buggered! Unlucky!

Either a re-install of windows or at worst, faulty hardware. Easiest way to find out if it's a hardware fault would be to download this diagnostic boot cd (It wont effect anyone on the HDD) http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ then run through the Memory/CPU/Benchmark tools to see if any fail/crash. If they work fine, it's most likely a software issue and you'll need to format and reinstall (could try to reinstall over the top if you need to keep stuff)

You may need to enter the BIOS and change the boot order so it boots from CDROM first.

No reason why the CD wont boot if the options are set correctly, unless the CD is buggered. Theres not much else you can do if you dont want to format the HDD, unless you have a spare harddrive to install windows on and see if it installs correctly, if it does the likelyhood is the hardware is ok.

Will it actually go into safe mode ? If it will, go in and copy the music files off.

If you put the windows CD in, and just run it in "repair" mode, I don't think it wipes the hard drive info :? in fact, even if you do a re-imstall, I don't think it does ........ but don't quote me on that one

Shove the Windows CD in, and see what happens ........ just don't actually click yes to anything "permanent" .....

What version of windows is it? if it's XP you should be able to chose a "restore point" of a couple of days / weeks ago ?

I downloaded the programe onto a floppy not a CD, but changed the boot sequence to A Drive and nothing.

I will not start up in Safe mode, it just keep turning off and then on again and so on etc etc

will run the windows CD in the morning and try repair and see what happens.

Cheers Guys
