I had an SV for 4 years and 43k miles. Was a superb bike, especially as a first bike. Was quick but forgiving. Plenty of low-down grunt and top-end speed (I saw 145mph on my speedo). I always wanted the lowers to make it look a little more like a 'proper' sports bike but never got them in the end. It's a regret.

However, the bike never, ever let me down and I commuted in wind, rain and snow no problems. It never failed to start. I didn't keep it clean, which I should have because the forks got terribly pitted and the brakes seized, corroded and caused me to replace various bits several times at greater expense than a quick hose-down in the evening.

However, I'd say the suspension is the weak side of the SV. If you've done the lowers and can so that you can hear the best of the twin engine then spend your next money uprating the suspension so you don't wallow quite so much in the bends. It'll be a modification that you notice the benefit of immediately.

Safe riding.
