Castle combe trackdays

was looking at the list of tracks in our fair and usually wet country and saw a link to castle combe. just wondering if anyone had ever been there and what it was like.

with the fact its £125 for the day and there are only 12 bikes on the track at a time was wondering if this was cos its small or just a safety feature.

Was only talking about there Sunday They dont run novice, inter or fast groups just A, B, C, D and there could be a complete novice and a track genious in the same group. Also noise restrictions are very tight some standard gixer's have been known to fail

Ive drove there (in a car, not on a bike and I have the dubious distinction of having hit the pit wall there ) - it aint that inspiring a track and later GSXRs on stock pipes have a habit of failing their noise test which kind of makes it a pointless track for a lot us!

Too be honest I haven't heard many good things about castle combe because of all the restrictions they have there. Some have said to me it ruins the experience.

Rode it about 4 weeks ago. Course becomes more challenging the faster you ride. Took me 4 sessions including a session with an instructor to learn it properly and get the fast lines.

Not many left handers but plenty of rights with a good variation between fast and slow.

Track time is limited especially if lots of peeps fall off.

Clear track most of the time. I was on with 4 relative novices on gixers and blades, 1 racer on an R6 and an instructor and there was no issue. Plenty of room for overtaking.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. The novices in my group seemed to get great support and I used the instructor on my 4th session. Very professional.

Noise restrictions are very tight. The limit is 105db at 3/4 revs. I had the stock can on my R6 and hit 102 db at 12000 rpm which is where it lives on track. They also measure db levels throughout the day.

There were gixxers there with stock cans but with extendable baffles in em. Looked a bit weird but done the business.

I will ride it again if it is mid week, I have a day off and I can book it at short notice but wouldnt go out of my way to ride it.

Track facilities for riders are good but no pits for the bikes so you need a genny if your gonna use warmers.

It is an incredibly fast track in places. Make sure your gearing is right and brakes are 100% to get the most out of it.

A word of warning, Oulton is going the same way. They are being forced down the route by noise restrictions the same as CC.

ive never had a problem with oulton,they noise test you correctly following the acu regulations there unlike castle coombe. all circuits are no being noise tested,brands is now down to 102db for a noisy day i beleive

stock r6s and gsxr600/750s with the low exit can are failing due to all the engine noise and the fact that CC hold the tester too close

No disagreement with this but I have spoken to guys who have been turned away from Oulton on stock bikes and there have been a few stories in the motorcycle press recently.

Just be careful guys. My mates done Oulton 2 weeks ago and both passed. 1 on a stock R6 and 1 on a tricked up track bike with only basic baffling. Pays your money you takes your chances. I'll be taking the stock can in the van as a just in case the next time I go there. Its a long way to go for nowt!

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread. CC can be a laugh. They dont fail people for a laugh and everyone who failed the time i was there was able to keep going round again until they made enough difference to pass or got 75% of their money back.

The fastest bike on the day was an ex race 4XV model R1 and that passed with just a baffle in the race can.

no worries tom, if i remember correctly mark said there was no noise failures at oulton at all day,might have been a one off bt i doubt it.

Combe is ok quite small and bumpy but local to us noise restictions are strict had to run standard can on my gixxer 1000 k2 with wire wool stuffed in it to get it passed any of the gixxer 750s with stubby cans wont pass mates was 109 db and he couldnt get on same reason for 12 in a group because of noise some tosser who recently moved to combe keeps complaining and taking them to court ! People test there for the tt because of the bumps but still smoother than the road cheers
