Sharp Ratings

Post by Beejyman »

When looking at a new helmet do people consider the Sharp ratings?? I've heard that some people don't think they are worth the paper they are written on. I was looking at a Shoei XR1000 but was a bit put off when it only acheived 3 stars on Sharp??

Not sure really about it all yet, ithink i will still buy the helmet i want as long as its by an established manufacturer, but saying that i did read somewhere that insurance companies in the future will determine payouts for head injury according to how the helmet you were wearing rated and no doubt they will use the Sharp rating as their guide......

I can sum up my thoughts about the Sharp ratings very easily:

AGV S4 helmet = 5 Stars

AGV Stealth Helmet = 4 Stars.

What's the problem I hear you ask? They are the same helmet but with a different vent and paint.

Doesn't add up plain and simple. There are loads of arguments about the testing, personally I'd buy the Shoei without any worries at all, it's a great lid and I know people that have crashed in them.

I had to buy a new one the other day when I went to the bike show. Went there and tried loads of different makes and models on and got the one that fitted best. Couldn't get my head in any arai one and a shoei ones just didn't feel as comfortable as the shark one that I ended up with. Then realised that they scored really well in the sharp test. but this didn't even cross my mind until I got home.

plus i liked the colour

The problem here is that we have the idea of Arai, Shoei superiority so engrained, that we can never accept that a relatively cheap lid could possibly perform better.

probably due to the fact that the snell yesting they sue int he states is the benchmark and theyre the ones that pass with the highest marks, sharp testing and the eu marks mean nothing anymore
