With the previous incarnation if i had not selected [automatically log me on] whilst logging on, i would be logged in to the forum but posts/messages would fail, or flicking through topics would result in me being logged out. Selecting [automatically log me on] cured it.
However, i'm using a works computer and the antivirus software may be a factor; Mc(crappy)Afee.

If anyone does have this problem it is probably becuase of the cookies.
There is a link at the bottom of this website to delete all cookies which should work.
The problem is because the cookies are named different between the 2 versions.
