RiDE Course - Devon Drivers Centre

Hey all

Following my accident back in November 2008 the Police wanted to me to go on this course.. they know that the accident wasnt my fault or speed related but as no one else was involved, to close the case it was either an enquiry which could lead to a very unlikely conviction and take ages or go on the RiDE course..

At first I was really bitter about being made to go on the course, thinking it was going to be condersending and preaching about bike accidents.. but thought it was excellent.. really good full day open conversations with other bikers and the IAM course lecturer, who is a REAL biker..

Makes you really think about riding safer, and reduces the mind-set of taking un-due risks.. I would recommend anyone offered this opportunity to take it up.

Also a bonus for me is being offered the Enhanced Riders Course for FREE, and potentially the Advanced Riders Course at a sponsered or reduced rate..

Good Day even though I had to drive 100 miles and spend £80 for the course and £20 for diesel..

Was also going to say above.. members that knew Frank (Blueflyer) the IAM guy that took the course yesterday was the Police Motorcycle Rider that lead the ride from Tamar Bridge carpark to the church.. and said a few words..

Frank was on his RiDE course only 6 weeks before his fatal accident..

I don't understand this.
They know the accident wasn't your fault, or speed related and no one else was involved.
So what the hell are the Police involved for

Ye i'm a bit baffled on that one....but more to the point can ya prove he was a REAL BIKER....I'll bet Statley could have proved otherwise

Must admit i'm with the others on this one. It wase'tyour fault, the police weren't going to do you but you had to go on an £80 course plus fuel amd time. For what reason? Hell I had less punishment for driving a truck into a tree years ago. I did try to blame the tree though

I felt exactly the same as you are saying now.. when I say no one else was involved, what I meant was, no one else was hurt.. my bike went on to destroy the front of a VW Polo.. I wasnt on the bike at the time.

I think due to the severity of my injuries, the Police/CPS felt that the accident required an enquiry.. I think in my case it was guilty until proven innocent..

Anyway... this isnt the point of the thread..

Do the RiDE course if you get offered it instead of points for speeding etc..

The point here is that without witnesses, the CPS have no case against you and I'd tell them to shove their ride course where the sun don't shine.

It makes me so angry.

Straight away, without any evidence of facts to corroborate, they have assumed that the rider must have been speeding.

No one was hurt.

No offence was committed

You were insured

I'd tell them to bog off.

The ride course is supposed to be given as an option to points, but since you have committed no offence, what's the point in doing it.
