Spark Plug changing is easy?..

Ok, thought I'd stick some new plugs in today as I havent ever in this bike (Had it about 3 months). Got some from Halfrauds and began to take the bike to bits to replace them..

First the cover came off the airbox, then tank, then to get the tank off came all of the rear seat cowling and both seats. then the airbox, finally revealing the spark plugs. (So I thought)

Turns out the plugs are sat right down inside the engine..



I don't have a box spanner or any sockets etc to reach that far down inside the engine and get these out.. how can I go about this?.. Does anyone know what tool I need for this?..

and dont cross thread them screwing them in and dont overtighten and strip the threads !!!!!

Have you got the tool kit cos there should be a plug spanner in there if you have. Then you can use a normal socket on extension. I use a stick magnet, like the old school car arials, to get the pugs out and to gently put the new ones in.

pop into halfords or cms and buy one that goes on your ratchet but make sure you know how wide your plugs are, iirc some plugs are 14mm and some 16mm

As has been said, plus get rid of that crappy "choccie-box" connector in the electrics there whilst you've got it exposed

on my ZXR750 the sockets don`t fit down the holes, you have to use the one from the bikes tool kit, sorry dude, I`m guessing you don`t have the tool kit

why's that?

Because, as said, they're cr*p

They have too many uninsulated edges which can cause arcing/shorting, they are designed for domestic rather than automotive electrics and can provide a high level of resistance, they are in no way waterproof, because of the way they are attached they often crush/break the strands of the wire and fail early, ...... and I'm sure there's a few more things I've missed

Either put an insulated spade/bullet connector in there, solder the joint and cover with heat-shrink, or use an in-line insulated crimp

balls. u think i'll need the kit then!? delvey91's lettin me borrow his wrench extension and a couple sockets tomorow so i guess i'll find out then!.. thanks, tom.
