Noise....

Post by Alan PBRTD »

The noise limit at Pembrey for Phil Bevan Trackdays is 105 DB.

You will be noise tested before going on circuit ( assembley area ) and there will be random tests during the day. The actual measurement of the noise is carried out by the Pembrey staff -we, as TDO's do not have any influence / control over this - they tell us who's passed and failed. The ACU ( and therefore their rule book ) do not have any juristicion at trackday events - we are under the control of the circuit. I'm 99% sure this is the same at any UK Trackday / Circuit ( that doesn't come under the ACU control )

Random noise tests are also carried out during the day - at all points of the circuit - if it's found out that you have ''modified'' your machine thus producing more noise you will be asked to leave the circuit immediatley. Aye we've had that one as well....

I've even watched from the Control tower ( by the start / finish straight ) and listened to the bikes go by. It's easy to hear 25 bikes @ the same noise level and one louder one !

If your machine fails the noise test it is up to you to modify it and then get it retested.

If you have any concerns over the noise level of your machine - please get a ''DB killer'' type device fitted before the event or fit the standard silencers.

Should your machine fail the noise test and you are unable to modify it enough to pass the test the machine will not be allowed on track. There are no refunds offered to riders who fail this test.

Unfortunatley Machines can not be tested before 9.00am therefore you are advised to carry out any modifications before you arrive at the circuit. We'd rather you be out on track rather than sat in the paddock.....

To be honest boys and girls Pembrey are trying to be fair to all riders while having to abide to local restrictions. There has always been a 105db limit but since the court case last year ( which they won !!! ) they ( and we ) are having to provide documented evidence of the Noise procedures carried out. When the court case was on they even went to the plaintifs ( geezer's winging about noise ) house and measure the noise from there as we were on circuit ! BUT even with these procedures in place for over 12 months now we are still getting bikes with noise levels @ 108 DB / 110 DB and ( sometimes ) riders questioning the Noise Officals. If you didn't know all our TD Marshalls / Officals are keen bikers themselves - in fact a fair number of them are working at the TT last week and this.

Cool .....

cheers alan

the only reason im slightly worried is that my bike has a full akrapovic system thats a slightly larger bore than normal but it doesnt sound stupidly loud for a 600. because of the larger diameter the db killers i have dont fit and im not sure i'll find some to fit. the chap i bought it off used it as a race bike for a few seasons and raced at anglesey, tonafanua etc and he said it passed noise limits there but im not sure how strict pembrey is compared to those places

cheers

 The cheek of it :!: :!:

Mind, you've got to get your's through too ..... and whilst it might have a quiet map for neutral, that won't cut it under "dynamic" testing when in gear

DB Killer sources....

Apart from googlin it

Alan Russell A&R Racing - http://www.arracing.co.uk/

and more specialist off the wall stuff - deej.

http://200mhp.co.uk/default.aspx

speak to Mark Hill. - 01438 351 509

And for the final time......

THERE IS NO FLEXABILITY ON NOISE if it's under 105 it'll pass - if it's not you won't.

Simple as that !

Mooses bike is definately loud - I think its a twin thing - the noise just seems to carry more

My akra passed a noise test at Pembrey comfortabley with its insert. I reckon it could pass without one but I dont want to hold things up by chancing it.

Alan quick question on another note, A friend of mine who has booked in independantly through you into novices has been fretting about the fact that he has had to send his licence off due to a driving offence, and he may not have it back from the courts by then as it will likely be having a few points on it. Is there a way around the problem of not having access to your licence on the day?, any way of getting confirmation from the DVLC via phone or some other way of dealing with people who may have lost or have had to send off their licence?
