TT tips

Post by akayel »

I'm planning my first trip to the TT this year. I was thinking of driving to the ferry, parking up and heading over on foot. (foot passenger £78/bike+passenger £180!!) will this give me a big problem with getting around the island? Are there plenty of camp sites around the circuit.?

If I leave it to the last minute will all the ferries be booked up cos' I heard the weather can be crap?

Thanks

You may struggle to get a bike onto the ferry at the last minute for the TT. There are plenty of campsites on the island, I've never camped there myself so can't comment on how busy they'd be, but you'd no doubt be able to get in somehwere.
Yes, the weather can be crap, and when it is, it's as miserable there as anywhere on Earth (at last year's Manx GP, we walked into Douglas centre from our hotel a couple of times wearing our oversuits, it was that bad) - but when it's nice, there is no finer place on Earth to be (it's equal first with Cadwell Park when it's sunny). The weather can be pants, but so what? Just go and enjoy the location, the atmosphere and the unique event - JFDI! 8)

The Isle of Man is not a big place but there is quite a lot of long winding roads between towns - thus making it the perfect place for a motobike race. If you are planning on staying in Douglas you should have no problem with transport and obviously there will be lots of other people in the same situation as you. As for campsites, I think you will need to book a place in somewhere as this is the busiest time for accomodation and I know for a fact B&B's get booked up so quickly. Once people find a nice place to stay, they tend to book it months in advanced and always stay in the same place.

My advice would be to be prepared as then you kow you have accommodation and all thatis left is to enjoy this epic race! One of my favourites of the year!
