Track day anyone?

I'm fairly new here and have noticed that the SWB track days seem to be either llandow or Pembrey.
Why?

Now I've not done llandow so can't really comment but all I've heard about the place is "go kart track" and although I've not done Pembrey for around 5 years I've done about a dozen track days there in the past and although it's a great little track, it's bumpy, fairly technical for a first timer (IMO) and the facilities are poor by anyone's standards, so, does anyone fancy a nice big get together on a proper track, like Donington park?

Now I've done Donington once or twice and have organised a couple of track days there as well and can't wait to get back there again now it's reopened.

Donny has great facilities such as proper toilets with hot and cold running water , garages with electric and most importantly a circuit that's very easy to learn for first timers but very hard to master for the quicker boys and girls.

Is anyone interested in a big get together cos I'll help out if there is and I can speak to those nice people at No Limits for some help

i think it depends on peoples shift patterns and how far theyre prepared to travel to get on track

personally i'd rather travel to places like cadwell and oulton than go to pembrey.

donny is a must but feel its best to avoid the place for the short term,let all the idiots go and have their crash fest and then i'll go when the novelty has worn off and time on track shoould improve, and also when the price drops down to something more sensible. £150/160 for the national circuit is a piss take if you ask me. talking about prices i think it might even work out cheaper now to do a 4 day foreign trip with guaranteed sun rather than the uk days

llandow is what is and is used to get newbies on track and a cheap day out

Simon organises Llandow more as a social event and an opertunity for people to experience a trackday on a fairly easy to learn track though I also think of it as a go-kart track

I did the junkies day at donny with u guys and had a blast I personally don't think £140 is to bad but midweek will be the problem for a lot of people including myself .

Llandow and pembrey are good for new people getting into track days and those that need a confidence boost. Otherwise plenty of people on here do track days all over (e.g. cadwell this week). We book up Llandow for the day and it's nice and cheap and a great get together at the start of the season.

I do think organising a massive event at a major circuit would be great, so keep us posted.

Funny you should mention it but i am considering donny on the 14th oct. Never been really want to go so dont mind paying a little extra if it helps the circuit to get back on its feet.

Focused are running it colin has his doubts about them but its on a thursday which suits so if anybody fancies it then let me know.

pembrey great track for the newbie i love going back but we also go with a big group which adds to the weekend. so going to another place with a large group can only be a bonus.

i don't like donny, i know it was drizzly and foggy when i went, but i just wasn't impressed with what there was.

cadwell is great and so is anglesey - both always worth a return visit(even if it is just to sit in the paddock and get wet )

the few of us that go to trackdays together generally go for a laugh which is why llandow and pembrey are popular, yes they are close and not equiped for gp crowds b ut a genny and a tent gets you through the night

at the mo donny is really overpriced and oulton is just silly money for most.

like deej said, euro days are looking most value for money these days.

having said all that it would be interesting to see what strings can be pulled with NO LIMITS though.

I for one would be very interested in another crack at Cadwell - dry if possible

well those prices have dropped already, when focused first announced it the price was £159 !!
is the £105 for 4 groups or 3 ?

i think oulton is definetly worth the money you pay,awesome track its a bit like cadwell but faster, the other one that id dont feel is value for money is brands gp £229 for a day is far too much money

Back in the day, the 98db days used to be 4 groups and those two FE days are 98db. I assume its not changed.

Oulton is stunning, I think you'd struggle to find a better track in the UK

I could be tempted into a larger more mainstream track though for a SW dubs day, did the TDR Anglesy weekend earlier this year & on the November Almeria trip.

I would be interested in a track day at Donnington preferably latter half of october (i cant make 4th to 8th October I am going to New York).

Ok, I understand that Llandow is a good little get together at at £50 you can't really go wrong and would consider doing it myself for that price.

Pembrey is, as I've already mentioned an awesome little track but the poor facilities annoy me, but having said that I might be there tomorrow .

Now what track floats your boat is a very personal thing and we're all different so if your going to pick a track for a big get together you have to pick something that would suit all abilities and most people's tastes.

I try and do 6/8 track days a year and My favorite track is Portimao and having done it two years on the trot nothing in this country comes close as Colin and Chris will tell you, but at £1500/£2000 a couple of times a year to get that 6 track days a year is a bit beyond most people reach (including mine), so, a fix once a month through the summer suits me.

Donington park isn't a million miles away from the South West and has a bit of everything to suit everyone.
As I've said, it's easy for a novice to learn and a good place to build confidence with some of it's longer flowing corners but very hard to master and when you think you've learnt it, someone will buzz you!

Silvertone I love but it's to fast , bumpy and intimidating for a novice imo.

Cadwell is a million miles away with again very poor facilities and although most love it, I'm not a massive fan because it's tight, hard work, and takes an age to learn, as well as not being the safest track in the world.

Oulton just frightens the crap out of me.
Great facilities but it's Cadwell on steroids, and imo opinion it's very hard to learn and not really a track to give a novice confidence.

Mallory is just a big round about with a nipple on the end so sod that.

Now, there is no way on this earth that you will ever see me, or my other half, or 99% of my friends on a Feck Arsed Events track day.
I would rather suck snot through a tramps sock than give them any of my hard earned cash.

So any track without garages = poor facilities? Nothing a genny and gayzebo cant fix.


Never had any problems with Focused Events, turn up, do the briefing, enjoy your day. Just need to know what to say when booking to ensure you get the group you want. Novice = 1-2 trackdays never at that circuit, Inters is 5 trackdays and once/twice at that circuit, Fast is 10+ trackdays and 5 times at the circuit, easy maybe they've improved in the past 3 years? I know that all the instructors are basically there voluntary, and like any business you're bound to 'employ' the odd arse hole.

I'll keep using them.

I agree with Gav, lack of garages doesn't render a track not worth visiting - sure it's nice to have a garage and power available but it isn't the end of the world if they aren't. I've probably done more trackdays at Cadwell than all of the other circuits I've ridden combined, simply because the riding experience is so enjoyable. If you don't like the place, don't go - simples! Anglesey has one of the best tracks in Britain now (Coastal configuration is the best), but that has no decent facilities either, but it's great to ride. With Brands and Oulton you get the best of both worlds, you pays your money and you takes your choice. (Incidentally those are my four fave circuits, in order)
