VITAL ID - Rider ID for bikers

Post by AndyW »

This is a great idea, a neat, inexpensive and highly effective ICE (In Case of Emergency) solution for motorcyclists - ID cards with family contact info and essential medical info for use by the emergency services......inc helmet 'tags' so that the medical services know to look for the Rider ID card (3M special adhesive appoved/safe to use on helmets;-)
More info: http://www.vitalid.ca/product-category/motorcycle-id/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please 'LIKE' their Facebook page to help spread the word ;-)

....I'm nothing to do with the company other than having set up the FB page for them.

Do the emergency services actually rely on these for blood groups etc, bit like racing suits/leathers, they never used to trust the blood group shown as it could be borrowed kit - even more so on a road bike where the helmet/bike could be nicked.

Guess police can normally trace machine owners from registration/chassis number and most legitimate riders would have licence/bank card ID or mobile phones with most recent or frequently dialled numbers etc.

Good idea but probably may be ignored.

I wear a 'medic Alert' wrist band because of my diabetes.
Medics are trained to look for such id tags. The tag carries instant info, in my case 'insulin dependant diabetes' Emergency services can get info of family memebers, medical requirements etc from the phone number on the pendant.

Anything which may help can only be a good thing. Ok, i don't advertise the fact I have it by means of stickers, labels on helmet etc but emergency services do look for pendants, wrist straps etc carrying the symbol shown, a snake around a staff.

Piece of mind if nothing else should you be on your own and incopacitated.

B-)
Don't care who you are, how much you have, how powerful you are. You still sit on the toilet with your pants around your ankles. Yep, it's a level playing field..

I reckon its a blimmin good idea, especially for someone like yourself Nick x

I cant see how having something like this can be anything other than a positive thing...trust me paramedics dont "faff about"...

Have to agree this sort of thing is a great idea. My other half wears medic alert bracelets due to her ongoing heart condition. Will consider buying a set for herself for when she comes pillion. For those with specific requirements, alerting the emergency services ASAP of such things can only be a good idea.

I think identity would be quick and easy to establish in most cases.......wallet with credit cards and/or driving licence etc police check of vehicle reg, call to one of the contacts on the ICE card etc etc......of course all done by someone other than the paramedic/whoever whose primary objective is medical assistance.

The original ICE concept was entering info in your phone, still worth doing (costs nothing!) but phones can get smashed and in this day and age who's to say the paramedic or whoever would know how to access info on various phone models....or the phone may be 'locked'

There's quite a few different systems available.........a benefit of this discussion, making people aware of ICE (In Case of Emergency) and that there are a number of different ID/info 'systems' out there...........then it's personal choice as to what if anything you chose to do.
(Might be worth avoiding the USB Tag products.....someone mentioned that the emergency services will not make use of these due to the risk of computer viruses.....don't know this for fact but does make sense;-)

....just like any 'insurance' you hope you don't ever need it but in the worse case scenario certain info available to the emergency services could make a big difference.
