Tyres and Suspension - so important !!!

Post by menzies3032 »

Over the last couple of months my bike has totaly transformed and thought it was worth while passing on my experiance. A few month ago I was realy struggling with my bike. Every time I headed towards a corner the front end felt like it was going to wash out for some reason on right hand corners more then left and every time I broke hard the nose was diving.

I started by realising that soft suspension was half the problem and had it reset to wind it up to a very hard setting. This made a real differance and all of a sudden I could go round corners but have been finding that I have had to hang off the bike to do so. I then started to notice that on ride out others seem to cruise round corners that I could not go round without the feeling I was a mm from ending up in a hedge.

So decided it was time to flash some cash and swap my sport/touring tyres my 3 year old Mitchelin Road Pilot 2ct with a brand new set of sport tyres so now on Metezler Sportec M5's. My god what a differance....... I am now cruising round corners at faster speeds then before and hardly even noticing they are there without even leaning off the bike.

Cant wait now for my track day in 3 weeks in Pembrey..........

 :D @-) :-bd :-bd

You might want to consider firming up further as this seemed to dial out my left and right issues. Hope this helps.

Personally i would take your bike to a garage or someone who can set your suspension up for you. They will set it to your weight and riding style, they will adjust preload, compression and rebound accordingly. You will notice a difference again. You can have your suspension too hard for the road.

I had my bike setup up at a track and made hell of a difference, bike went where i wanted it to go and felt alot more positive on the track.

But out on the road it is too hard and is very twithy, so just backed everything off

There is also a few guides online to do it yourself.

Just my opinion.

Menzies when you at pembrey? I'm there on the 25th.

Here is a link to a guide.

Here is another link that might help too. Gives problem/Complaint, Cause and the solution.
