Re: Track Day's Q & A
Track day training isn't usually done on a standard Track day experience. Any tuition is freely provided by the company providing the track event. Training is normally booked as a day tuition with a specific trainer/company. Insurance is a good idea yet I have never taken this option and suspension isn't usually more than around £50 for a days setting upmenzies3032 wrote:How much does an average track day cost?

The initial prices listed are pretty good although I tend to use a lot more than £25 fuel!

Re: Track Day's Q & A
please understand though, you don't have to have your suspension set up especially to go on the track.

Interesting question and a very varied answer.scooby601 wrote: What tyres do you need and how often will they need replacing?
All depends on you, your bike and what you want from the day.
I am personally on a 600cc sports bike with metzler M5 road tyres. I have done 4 track days and road riding and there is still ware in them. These are sport road tyres so can do track and road.
If you are just looking for a go on track what ever you have got as long as they are in decent condition will do.
If you are looking to be a track day god on a 1000cc beast then a set of slicks and tyre warmers are a must and you might go through a set on 1 track day.
Down to how much grip you want or need and what you are looking for from the day.

Re: Track Day's Q & A
Depends how you ride I suppose, I got 7 days out of a pair of K1 front & K2 rear Metzeler racetecs on my 05 R1 .... I ride mid experienced group.
Fitted a set of continental slicks last year, most impressed with them for what is a cheapo tyre.
Also I used to get all my tyres from FWR no one could get near them for price.

Re: Track Day's Q & A
My scrubs will Last me 5 trackdays easily. There were some guys in Portugal going through a rear tyre in 3 sessions but for our level I would have to say if you are doing a set a day firstly stop doing burnout and locking up and secondly get your suspension done.

Re: Track Day's Q & A
Lots of factors influence tyre wear - track surface/abrasiveness, suspension setup, temperature, and bike type and capacity. Abrasive tracks kill tyres (llandow). Poor suspension setup kills tyres. Hot weather can mean rubber wears more. Big bikes are more likely to wear tyres than little ones, and twins more than fours ......

Re: Track Day's Q & A
I got 8 trackdays from a set of Continental race attacks, on an old zx7r, to be fair the front could probably do a couple more but its a bit pointy, and the rear has life left in the left hand side, but apart from Bedford there's nowhere where I could even the wear up.
As has been said suspension set up is crucial for consistent tyre wear, as is smooth bike control.
Having said that I'd kill for the ability to back it in and lay darkies on the way out of a corner

Re: Track Day's Q & A
Tyre pressure is important too. Don't forget you can reverse most tyres.
However heat cycles will also determine life.

Re: Track Day's Q & A
Heat cycles are key and thats why tyre warmers are a must have for anyone doing trackdays on a regular basis, they arent cheap to buy but will prolong the life of a set of tyres.layne wrote:Tyre pressure is important too. Don't forget you can reverse most tyres.

I got 4 days out of a set of Comp K Slicks in Almeria which is a very abrasive track due to correct pressure, warmers, suspension setup and riding like a wuss ;) ;)

Re: Track Day's Q & A
Once a topic has been made for the track day then people can put there names up once paid up,
Also if people have space and want company then it can be figured out in said topic.
Or if you need a lift then mentioned it in the topic and then someone can contact you.
It is a good thing van sharing as can go 1/2 on fuel and split driving.

Is it true that some tracks don't like two-piece leathers and insist on one piece or is that just outfitting stores starting rumours to try and sell more expensive suits?

As long as it's a full zip, hip to hip and they zip together then you are fine.
IF your zips don't match or it's only a short zip then get in contact with Lwr Gerry on here and she will fit you a zip for not a lot of cash and to a very high standard.
