FI warning light on a GXSR 1000 K7

Post by menzies3032 »

Hi All

Wanted to get a little bit of help and advise. Started up my K7 GSXR 1000 today and as I turned the key (even before the engine started) I had a red light and FI coming up. I started the bike thinking that it would clear it self and then went on a very short ride where it was still up. %-(

I then stopped checked over the bike thinking it was short on oil or coolant but as i did not have any tools with me could not do a proper check. started the bike again and it disappeared. Then road it up to Exeter sweet as a nut as usual.

Any body got any ideas what causes an FI warning? I am conscious this is a serious warning and want to check the bike over to make sure all is ok before i do any serious miles on it.

Thanks for your help and feedback :-bd

It would seem i might have just found my own answer

I have a Scorpion full system and think this is to do with an exhaust valve not being fully closed.

if anybody has any other ideas or think it could be something else then please shout as don't want to disregard it.

The first thing would be to go and get a servo eliminator which is a little box of magic to remove the service completely.
About £45 but piece of mind is wonderful.

Hi Rob,

When i had my K7 and put the decat pipe and scorpions on, had to get the servo eliminator as Ian said, do you still have the cat and servo motor in place?

If you go onto Gixxer.com there loads on there about it, links etc its a common thing when cans and link pipes have been changed on the GSXR.

Gents

Thanks for your advise.

I have heard from a friend Chris that Woolich Tune might also be able to help me with this one as well so will investigate all options.

Also now that I know what it is and that the bike is not going to blow up underneath me might just monitor it and see if this was a one off or if this turns into a recurring problem.

Cheers Gents

Steve have no idea. When i bought the bike i got a big box of old parts with it including the Cat and the 2 end cans. I think this has got a Scorpion full system so i think the whole lot has been stripped.

I thought that your bike came with a power commander on it rob?? If it does then you would be able to remove and sell this to make the ecu flash in theroy cheaper.

But the servo eliminators are only cheap and would be my first port of call,
Are you definatEly sure it's that rather than anything else? Have you pinned the diagnostics plug for the code etc?

Have a look at Mike from the biker discount store for the heal tech ez servo, great service and if you say your from the trackdayriders forum you may even get a cheeky discount.

Rob,

Worth finding out what the code is... Had issues with mine, at least if you find out what code is coming up, you can do something about it... If its not come on before now, and the exhaust has been on all the time, why should it show up a fault now?

Good luck...

Good point. Thanks Steve.

Can I do it myself or do i need to take it to a dealer to find out the code?
