Re: th oh
WTF , ok speed accounts for a few accidents , but they would be better to put unmarked cars out to look for silly buggers driving like loonies and overtaking in stupid places etc, As I spend most of the day on the roads locally in a truck i see what goes on and TBH i would say speeding is not really the greatest cause of the problems, inapproptiate use of speed in the wrong places yes . like outsiude schoolls etc , but whendo you eve see a speed camera in a built up area , outside a school etc , no always oput on dual carriageways and straight bits of road , its a revenue earning excercise no mater waht they say , and they need to start sorting out cyclist riding straight through red lights, overtaking up the inside of large vehicles etc, and a lot of van drivers are not aware they hae lower limits than cars , check the law for the vehicle you are driving folks it could save you points and a fine

In my van I do 70ish on dual carriageways, which I think is the defacto speed as the limit for vans is still 60. Cars generally do 80.
I must say though that I tend to ignore the other commercial limits as it just annoys both me and other users if I do the required 10 under the posted speed limit.

Re: th oh
Yes but you know and if you see a camera /van / old bill car you will slow to the limit , some still think they can do 70 legally on dual carriageways and 60 on ornery roads , i got to admit it is better now the limit for heavy trucks is up from 40/50 on normal roads , the A361 north devon link road used to be painful with the supermarket trucks only doing 40 , and with the limiter set at 56 any way not really much chance of doing the motorway/dual carriageway speed limit that is 60 , imagine if they told car driver they where going to have to have speed limiters set to 66 mph ,Jug_Inspector wrote: ↑Jan 12th, '19, 11:32 In my van I do 70ish on dual carriageways, which I think is the defacto speed as the limit for vans is still 60. For Fu*k sake!
When are they going to learn.
Speed does not cause accidents.
Poor driving skills, lack of observation, poor hazard awareness. These are the things that need to be policed.
Doing 90mph on a motorway is not dangerous in good weather conditions, good visibility. There is nobody on the road heading in the other direction as you have 3 lanes all going in the same direction. With good awareness and visibility of multiple cars ahead and behind you, with closure speeds of 10/20mph on other cars...... this is not dangerous this is safer then doing 25mph on a high street

Re: th oh
Hmm.. Could he be bullshiting everyone?
That part of the 303 is single anyway so it wasn't a 60/70.
Even if on the dual part (towards Honiton) then 6 mph over is 10%.
The tolerance for the UK is supposed to be 10% + 2mph.

bit of a moot point that one , it is not law as such , truck drivers have been done for 2 mph over as the tachograph is acalibrated intrument

Re: th oh
Your link seems to agree with what I've said. If the measurement device showed the van doing 66 then the copper would usually not stop the van. Normal vans don't have a calibrated tachograph so normal tolerances should be applied.

Re: th oh
yes it says guidance not legislation
and probably the van was reading 70 mph when the driver was stopped as most speedos are fast nowadays ,
so it will not stand up in court, obviuosly if you get a copper that is in a bad mood or summat he may not be that lenient , but it also says"A National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) spokesperson said in relation to the allowance: “The 10 per cent rule is allowed in guidance but it is not part of legislation."
so who knowsIn the document it also revealed that there is a maximum tolerance of +/-2mph up to 66mph and 3 per cent for all speeds higher than 66mph.

Re: th oh
I think those figures were when speed measurement on vehicles was analogue.
Now it's all digital there are mo's excuses. Also 2 lane road in the van is a 60, 3 is 70.
Bloody rules.

Re: th oh
It's definitely dual carriageway past Wincanton and quite a few miles of it too . 10% + 2 mph is only guidance and different counties will have their own rules and tolerances.Jug_Inspector wrote: ↑Jan 12th, '19, 21:13Hmm.. Could he be bullshiting everyone?

Not quite so. A dual carriageway could be 1,2,3 or more lanes. A motorway could be 2 lanes. It's surprising how many think a single carriageway with a dedicated overtaking lane (like parts of the A303 heading west from Yeovil) is a dual carriageway.billinom8s wrote: Also 2 lane road in the van is a 60, 3 is 70.
Good to see D+C are getting their priorities right when last year ........
"Crime has soared in Devon and Cornwall with sexual attacks, possession of weapons, and robbery seeing the biggest increases.
Recorded crime in Devon and Cornwall has risen by nearly a quarter in just a year, one of the biggest rises in England and Wales, from 81,893 offences recorded by police in 2016 to 100,637 in 2017, a rise of 18,744 crimes.
among the types of crime seeing a big rise was violence against the person, with a 10% rise in 2017. In total, police recorded 35,007 violent crimes in 2017, 9,186 more than in 2016.
The force has also seen reports of sexual offences soar in the past year, with a 43% rise in reports between 2016 and 2017, one of the biggest rises recorded in England and Wales, with a total of 4,371 sexual offences reported last year.
Possession of weapons offences were also up, with a 35% rise in 2017, one of the biggest increases in England and Wales, with a total of 807 crimes reported, with a rise also reported in the number of robberies, up by 34% between 2016 and 2017.
Theft offences were also up, by 13% in 2017, with a 3% rise in burglary also reported.
As well as this, drug offences were also rising, up 5% in a year."

Re: th oh
Yup, just checked again but on a PC and saw where the real Wincanton actually was lol.
For some reason originally my phone showed it as being just south East of Honiton... What's that about then... Stupid phone...
I generally do 70 down that stretch... Though that's probably only 66 GPS speed.
