Track day prep
As the track day season is upon us, on this forum loads of dates are being posted.
However what do you guys do to prep those track weapons to ensure smooth running for the season?
Out of season I work on all the niggles that my 2004 zx10r shows from her age and track abuse on the tarmac and quite often in the gravel or across the grass.
So this out of season, the engine was pulled out and bottom end stripped apart to replace a gear shifting problem, I was suffering from a miss-shifts between 2nd and 3rd. So a new gearbox has been installed and to help with down shifting a Sigma slipper clutch fitted.
Start and through out the season.
Oil change
Coolant change
Brake fluid change
Check brake lines
New chain and sprocket
New brake pads all round
Shims checked and replaced if required
Front fork oil change
Check and change spark plugs if required
Clean and re oil air filter
All bolts checked and re-torqued
Tyre check and replace if required
Check wheel bearings
Check and adjust clip-on's and rear sets and general ergonomics
Check and adjust clutch and brake levers
Check and adjust throttle pull and return cables if required.
Once I've done all of this I'm then satisfied the bike is safe and ready to go on the track.
As the season goes on I
Change the brake fluid every 90 days to keep the same brake feel and reduce brake fade
Change oil every 2 track events
Change oil filter every 4 track events
Check brake pads every track events and replace if required
Quick check of major bolts
Before every track event I also check
My leathers
Boots
Helmet
Gloves
Tool kit
Generator
Tyre warmers
Spare oils and fluids
Spare parts for the bike are all good and packed.
What do you guys do to make sure your day and track event goes with out a hitch to make the most of your day?
As a broken or unsafe bike cant be used on the track.

head bearing check
wheel bearing grease
clean, check and lube the chain - adjust if needed
lube clutch cable if needed
check tyre pressure - adjust on the day
fill tank with fuel
fill genny with fuel
fill gerry can with fuel
check fairing bolts
clipon bolts
rearset bolts
check pads
check coolant and oil
get trackbox off shelf
prep toolbox
go through trackday list
have a good day, play nice, get overtaken, come up with excuses on warm down lap for paddock banter
get home in one piece.

Honestly now
Oil and filter every 5 days,
Tyres when I feel they need it (Got 12 days outta a compk)
Brake check of pad condition.
Brake fluid I haven't changed in 3 years as never cooked it and had to. Motul rbf660 has done it's job.
Check for leaks and general once round.
Find key,

Makes the day easy and stress free. I live for and love the pressure, stress of it all before the day. I know exactly where I am with the bike and my day brings it all together

Kicking the tyres and not seeing any fluids under the bike isn't good enough.

Decent garden chair, beer cooler, factor 20-30.
Occasionally watch others, but can't be arsed riding round in circles covering the same couple of miles all day ...... On the rare occasions my bikes see the light of day, it's nice to go places and see things .....

Nowhere near as much as they ought, or I'd like, but circumstances beyond easy resolve hamper opportunities nowadays. I don't think they did more than 1500 miles between them last year
