Vstrom 650 seat / suspension height queery

Post by Terrier »

Hi all, long time no posting, but occasionally popping in and out.
I've got a Vstrom 650 09 plate as a winter hack, had it a while, great bike but seems a little low in the saddle. Book specs say seat height 835mm, but I've got 800.
It has the standard dog bones at 140mm ctrs, and a decent shock with no wear in linkages.
I'm a bit suspect it has the low seat option, as it looks a bit 'dippy'. I'm going to get shorter dog bones to lift the rear and front though the yoke a bit, but always questioned the seat.
Anyone out there with a standard Vstrom willing to throw a tape measure over their's to compare some figures for me?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried cranking the rear preload all the way up?

have a look at how the seat material is attached underneath. Chances are the foam has been scooped out and the cover replaced. If the staples look non original then I'd be thinking that.

Thanks, but all suspension OK, been looking into it a bit deeper on a strom site, there is an option of low and touring seat.
Think I ended up with the low option as its quite dippy from previous owner.
Preload and settings fine, mechanically she's up as high as it can go on its links, it's the seat (unmodified low).
Will try to find one second hand or get it filled out.
Would have been nice if anyone had a seat of that year to cross check dim's

I think I saw one outside Treen motorcycles in his ranks. Might be worth a call.
