On a recent ride out I was subjected to some constructive bullying from Roy about my rear light.
I was initially sceptical about the need for a bright rear light on such a sunny day but afterwards started paying more attention to the rear light of the bike in front and it is true that a nice bright rear light is helpful when we ride under dense tree cover... so I decided I'd do something about it.
Initially was going to buy some red eagle eye LED's but decided that I could just make something as I have a 3D printer and some 10mm ultra bright LED's doing nothing.
First I found a nice spot to mount them just above my number plate.
Then it got painted, LED's fitted, wired and the correct resistor value to deal with up to 14 volts from the bike.
and finally fitted and wired in.
Lets hope this satisfies Roy on the next ride..

Neat, nice install too. I've been looking at going the Eagle Eye red LED Stop & Tail light route myself. They're available but can't find them for less than 18 quid each.

I've not seen those.. the LED's I was talking about are just that, an LED in a small housing.
£2.70 each but long shipping.

There's plenty of the red Eagle eye LED's about but this is the only stop & tail version I can find, and they've gone up a quid since I looked last.Jug wrote: ↑Aug 3rd, '22, 15:30I've not seen those.. the LED's I was talking about are just that, an LED in a small housing.

It's easy to turn any LED (or a number of them working together) into a tail & brake light setup, it just needs two different resistor values.Robbo87 wrote: ↑Aug 3rd, '22, 18:20 There's plenty of the red Eagle eye LED's about but this is the only stop & tail version I can find, and they've gone up a quid since I looked last.

If you were get some eagle eye LED's in then I'd be able to test them and tell you what value resistors you'd need to make it work as a brake & tail setup. In fact I think they already have a resistor built in to make it work at vehicle voltage so it'd likely just need one external resistor to make it dim enough to be the tail light. I might even have the right value in my kit already, in which case you can have them.

Thanks Mr J, I'll take you up on that. I'll get a couple of red LED Eagle Eyes and get back to you.

Re: Better back light (the Roy light)
Maybe if I had made this mod to my BMW then I would not had a SuperDuke crash into it recently and might have my bike to play with this summer rather then being in the hands of the insurance company all through the prime riding months
Seem to remember Roy making a similar comment about my rear light.
