Forum Outage 23-24 March

Post by Dave »

Hi All,

As you will know the forums have been down alot for the last few days :( , the reason you couldn't get to the forums was the database service had stopped. (And a few others)

With a few more services not working I couldn't access the server to reboot it, so all support was done through email (I think carrier pigeon would have been quicker though). :x

Anyhoo, I've just been through the reports and found that it was the email service causing the problems due to me not having the propper security settings on the sendmail service.  :x

You should all be pleased to know that SWB has sent out around 60,000 emails so far this week  Probably all SPAM though

All should be fine until the next problem though

Yeah mate, the sendmail didn't need any authorisation so anyone from any domain could use it as a realy. Just had a tick in the wrong place

the problem now being that the SWB domain could well be logged as open relay server on numerous blackhole lists. Might be worth checking the more popular ones just in case (spamcop, ORDB etc) ?
