If you go to the ford website and spec a new van you van have an limiter set to 56 or 62 or 70 mph now for £50 extra so the technology is there its just enforcing it on cars and vans, My other thought is this new black box insurance thing , if the insurance companies make that the only way they will insure vehicles and speeding sticks your premium up is another way they may try to do it ,

That's not the same thing Mervin, that's just a hard speed limiter not a road aware speed limiter, and they've been available for years..
My own van (of 1999 vintage) has that in the ECU. If I wanted to set it I could with just a laptop and an OBD lead, but it's a one way setting meaning a new ECU would be required to remove the limit.

Society is becoming more dystopian with tech being abused by governments to control every aspect of daily life, its a world wide trend and unfortunately motorcycling will get caught up it. I for one will quit motorcycling if dataloggers and speed limiters become compulsory I feel it's getting too big brother, what's next starting your bike/car with a credir card so you can be fined automatically for every traffic offence.

Sorry I think they are already thinking about abolishing road tax for pay per mile probably why the data loggers are becoming compulsory in anticipation. Its like someone said above driving/riding is seen as necessary rather than recreational these days and tax/money drives all these changes with the environment used as the excuse.

It's all talk at the moment.... i very much doubt this will come into effect for some time yet.

That's progress. I suggest we all enjoy while we can!

Think its only a matter of time before we are no longer riding / driving the technology will be in charge of gets us from A to B in an electric vehicle with 0 emissions and a health and safety system ensuring compliance to every possible or conservable issues to ensure a lack of law suits.

So as Phil says above think its time to enjoy it whilst we can.

A major factor with electric is they are not zero emissions. Where does the electricity come from, it's not all whirligigs whose construction is damaging the environment and solar arrays aren't ideal for the environment either. Also raping the Earth for the rare elements for the batteries (and catalytic converters too, by the way) is not very "green". Hopefully electric vehicles will soon not be recognised as part of the solution to having too many people on the planet all wanting our slices of the cake.
Regardless, the killjoys who want to control the masses to protect their profit margins will have their way. Agree with the conclusion to get out on your bike and ride while you still can.

We don't have the capacity yet for 100% adoption but adoption will be slow at first which will give us time.
No new IC cars will be sold after 2030, so lets say 2050-60 until almost all vehicle on the roads are electric (or hydrogen). As long as more nuclear plants get built along with energy storage to match, we should be fine.

Without more nuclear plants we will struggle.
So that's our future I think.

By the time this all comes in.... the majority of us will no longer be driving

I for one would love my grandchildren to be able to enjoy the freedom I have had on my bike.
It has so far been a huge way of life for me, and I've had some great times, and made many friends.
Long may it continue.

I saw a graffitti on a building beside a motorway 15 years ago that said "big brother is not a TV show " in Belguim and it was written in english,

I am in my 60,s now and was discussing this with a freind that is a couple of years older than me recently , he "I think we had the best days of motoring in our lifetime its never gonna be the same again " my reply very true mate
