I've known so many Women take up biking because they like to be the centre of attention in a Mans world,(which let's face it, it is), but very few stay the course.

I have never met a female rider with more than a few years experience.

Don't get me wrong.

I think it's a damn shame, because we need females in our ranks but it just annoys me that so many are only in it to prove a point.

The last Woman I knew that started riding was a school teacher and actually admitted to me that the only reason she took her test and bought a Blade was to get some Kudos off the rough kids in the school she was based at.

Needless to say, she didn't last long.

Great to see another female on a bike, but let's hope that she can be one of the few who can see more in it than just a cool image and a ready made social scene.
As you seem to think you know me I wont bother wasting my time apologising for the delay in replying to your comments.

As the saying goes 'You shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush'. Although after your comments I do have to ask which one are you - The Mummies Boy that is still at home and that cant fend for himself; The Mid Life Crisis rider that still cant find happiness or The Loner Toser that likes his own company? Because I've not met anyone like you through the SWB site or on the Meet I recently went on and I'm sure you would have stuck out like a sore thumb!!!

At least I'm not afraid of trying new things!!!

Wow.
A lot of abuse there.
Is that the most intelligible response you can give.
I am middle aged, yes, but I have been riding constantly since the age of 18 (27 years).
My point was not meant to be sexsist but to make the point that Women tend to be more attracted to the lifestyle and social scene than bikes, and you have said nothing that makes me think otherwise.
In fact, judging by the torrent of abuse you decided to dish out, I think I might just have hit on a nerve ? :D
I am absolutely certain that without the social scene, you would have no interest in bikes at all and I say again, you will not, repeat NOT still be riding in three years time.
Why am I saying all this.
Because I am a sexsist dullard with a chip ?
No.
My opinioons are based on nearly 30 years experience of seeing people like you come and go with tedious regularity.
I say again.
I really wish more Women would take up riding, but more importantly, I wish they would keep riding.

I think it would be wise to keep your mouth shut now as you are digging yourself a big hole, your attitude towards female bikers is disgusting & rude and its no wonder if anyone (male or female) would want to keep up biking around you as you are the rudest person I have seen on this site and I have been member for 4 years

Kim please kick some ass

well this is all getting quite b itchy isn't it?

andy - as you have been around the biking scene for quite a while (as have i) we have all seen many people come and go from our 2 wheeled world - MALE AND FEMALE. some thru choice, some thru accident/injury, some thru other commitments and some thru nagging

however, not once have i ever heard of someone poo pooing a newbie biker and their excitement about joining our collective ranks.

not once.

why would you do it? ok, think it but don't say it.
how would you have liked it if you had been told you weren't going to stay ?
what ever happened to being positive?

i know that there will be those that say 'feel free to say what you want' or 'everyone is entitled to an opinion' etc, which they are. but manners cost nothing and respect even less.

maybe what you wanted to say should have been in another thread instead of a thread about a new rider on her new bike on her first rideout.

i have had my full licence for nearly 2 years now, but ive been riding off road for a lot longer.
ive loved bikes from the first time i sat on one when i was 3,
as u say you may have only experienced women bikers who do it for the show, but i have met plenty of men who do it too.
i think you have hit a nerve on the site as there are alot of us girls who love our bikes, and its quite annoying to be pretty much told we are all after the attention that having a bike might bring.
im sure many of the girls on the sight will agree that its much more fuffilling to be on a good road with your mates than sitting around posing like some chavs in morrisons carpark.!
so if i was you id just keep your keyboard warrior antics quiet as we are not interested in your small minded, pathetic comments.

Andy, I think, by the number of smileys you've used after certain comments you didn't mean to be sexist, but I'm sure you must understand and appreciate how your comments could be taken as such. I think it would have been better received if you had have said something along the lines of 'Wow, great to see another lady rider join the community - I hope you really enjoy it and stick with it as too many ladies give up biking too soon'. That, perhaps, would not have gotten SO many backs up - and I certainly HOPE that's what you meant to say.

Even so, to make a comment purely based on gender - you surely must acknowledge - is wrong.

Whatever Debbie's reasons for joining the biking scene - the fact is she has - and this something to be celebrated. If she does it for six months of six years - who cares??! The point is she's done it. Even if she gives up after a while, she will be a better driver for it - having due regard for bikers, having been there, done that - thus making the roads just that little bit safer for those that stick at it.

The fact of the matter is she joined the biking scene for me - yes, me - not a man, not to meet men, not for a social scene - but me! This is something that we want to do to spend some quality time as sisters - but WHY does any of this have to be justified to you?!

And, so what if she did join it for a social scene - which, as I've said already, she didn't - haven't you ever gone to the pub just to see who's there and who you can have a yap to? Haven't you ever attended an evening class or a club, a football team, something(!), just to meet other people - people you might not ordinarily meet in your every day life just to get to know people and be a more rounded person yourself as a result?? Haven't you ever tried a new hobby, only to discover it's not for you? If you haven't - what a boring life you must have led?

For so long I've been telling Debs that the biking community/SWB is so great - full of really fun, lovely, friendly people - bikers look out for one another, blah, blah, blah - and in her first few weeks of biking you have COMPLETELY ruined everything I have said to her. You have disappointed me - and I hope you have he decency to be disappointed in yourself.

Please have the good grace to apologise - not only to Debs, on the basis that you have made assumptions about her without knowing her - but also to the other lady riders on this site you have, undoubtedly, offended by making comments based purely on gender.

You really do surprise me, with all that experience, you haven't learnt the art of keeping your mouth shut or keeping you opinions to yourself!

Throughout the 17 years (and still going) I've been in the Motor Trade you get to know alot of people and they like alot of SWB members are genuinely nice people but then you do occasionally come across people like yourself that are just genuine ARSEHOLES. And to be honest I've out lasted and done better than most of them so I really dont care what you have to say on the matter!
